And math teachers use iPads to videotape students working through problems, explaining how they arrived at the solution and thereby demonstrating mastery of a lesson.

City schools get grant for iPads in Autism Classrooms (And Have Plans for Proper Teache... - 4 views

  •
The public school district in St. Louis, Missouri was awarded an Innovative Technology Education Fund grant to buy iPads for all students with autism in six autism-specific classrooms. This seems to be an example of utilizing an emerging technology in an excellent way with proper teacher training, rather than using technology for technology's sake. The schools will be advised on how to implement the iPads by an autism science and advocacy organization and have two full days of professional development planned.

This is great news on the autism-rights front! I know a severely autistic 21-year-old who is highly communicative because of the technology he has used since he was young.

New iPad App Puts Viewers Inside Immersive Video - 1 views

  •
A new iPad app uses immersive technology to convey a richer video experience.
  •
Looks like a great app. I can imagine it being applied in a lot of ways. I see that "The app turns specially encoded video into a virtual reality experience", which means that you need specially recorded video. This may limit the absorption of the app.

Dubai schools move from pencils to iPads - 1 views

  •
Parents are divided by the tech movement at the GEMS Royal Dubai School. It exposes the concern of the growing digital divide if the need for an iPad is so strong and becomes the "go to" device. Will BYOD really mean "bring your own iPad?" Thoughts?

Tablets' potential for learning, as seen by apple. Thoughts?
  •
I personally see a lot of potential for the use of tablets in education, but I find it interesting that Apple is heavily promoting the ipad for educational uses on its web site, but doesn't offer the educational discount for the iPad.

iPads in schools: 'The last generation with backpacks'? - Apple 2.0 - Fortune Tech - 1 views

  •
A survey of 25 ed tech directors conducted by Piper Jaffray that is making the rounds in the tech blogosphere. Seems to fall in line with what we're learning and today's trends: all surveyed IT directors are interested in the iPad, not Android, they like the flexibility tablets would offer over computers, it's going to take some time for schools to achieve one tablet per child. Cost is an obvious concern, but so is device management.

Stacie Carroll, a teacher at Toronto's Beverly Public School, told Metro Morning host Matt Galloway the iPad has helped teachers connect with students - including those with autism - who often struggle to communicate.

iPads can't improve learning without good teaching Pt 1 - 3 views

  •
This was also shared in UDL by my teaching fellow. Again, it is not just about the TECH, it is about the TEACHer!! Clearly there is a lot of buzz around iPads in schools at the moment. You can't log on to the Web without reading about another school or entire district or department investing massive coin in a sparkling set of the Wonder Tablets, excited that they will cure all the ills of the current education systems around the world.
