These are important ideas - hope they archive the presentation, as it is opposite our section.

I followed this article to another really interesting article on th same site http://www.brookings.edu/research/papers/2012/09/04-education-technology-west with a prediction of the use of data mining and web dashboards through the lens of big data. I think we are very close to being able to implement these ideas in the near future. Great article thanks for sharing!

"So-called "big data" make it possible to mine learning information for insights regarding student performance and learning approaches. Rather than rely on periodic test performance, instructors can analyze what students know and what techniques are most effective for each pupil. By focusing on data analytics, teachers can study learning in far more nuanced ways."

Samsung establishes "smart classroom" which moves class study from pen and paper style learning to tablet based learning, but also allows schools in remote island, that lack educational infrastructure, connect students through electronic dashboards and share ideas and information.

New Facebook Groups feature - document sharing, mass email, group chat.

Facebook's new application which allows small sub sections of friends to form groups. It includes the ability to have group chats as well as share documents and send out emails to all members of the group. I see a potential for education in that younger students who are already on facebook all the time but know less about other document sharing or collaboration features may have a new outlet for doing group work or getting help with homework.

Compelling for educational uses, particularly science and health (but the price has to come down some first).

This article talks about two companies that are trying to create dashboards to combine all the data that teachers receive from different programs they use. The goal is to help teachers "avoid an air-traffic-control problem as they try to mix and match the tools they use."
