Faster Maintenance with Augmented Reality - 0 views

Article discusses a MIT/Columbia project currently underway that uses AR systems to assist Marines during difficult repairs to weapons systems and vehicles. The test found that mechanics could perform the repairs in half the time when using AR assistance versus the more traditional text-based repair manual. I would be very interested in seeing how more AR in classroom seetings in physics and math might accelerate learning.

A Soldier's Story: training is serious when you could be deployed - 0 views

  •
Talk about high stakes tests! These soldiers in basic training are learning about the tools of the trade in simulations designed to evoke emotional reactions not dissimilar to the ones they may face if deployed to a war zone.

Data mining-Whats in your profile? - 0 views

Once again, people are approaching social media as a cute distraction and not a powerful data minin tool. I purposefully keep my bday and other info wrong. A) I get to see who of my 'friends' knows me well enoughto notice and B) ...I like to keep the creepers guessing. Still, apparently your freewheeling posts might actually help you get a date...just make sure to meet in a public space and with mace!

'MAG' brings worldwide warfare to PS3 - 0 views

Maybe it is a guy thing, but I think I would enjoy building a crack team of mercenaries to battle other 'gangs'. The VOIP functionality and real-time skirmishes sound like a lot of fun. I just had a great idea for a MUVE game... Rookie, a MUVE that requores the formation of a constant cohort of users that must work together to graduate a Police Academy (politics, alliance building, skills, civic quandries, etc). They rise through the ranks together culminating in SWAT team training and/or criminal justice track (courts).

Brainpower...cooler than the Clapper - 2 views

I have heard about these type of devices before, but I think this is the first time I have seen them available for use by the public. Not exactly sure why they chose lights as the reactant, but I suspect it has something to do with the unique alpha/beta waves created by the brain in response ot lighting. Question is, which comes first the thought or the light bulb?

Man uses Facebook for suicide note - 0 views

  •
This SOB used Facebook to explain his reasons for taking his son's and his own life. Make no mistake this guy has some serious issues. Still, it is noteworthy that Facebook and other social media outlets (youtube, flickr) have been used by the public and authorities to intervene and prosecute people that broadcast their criminal actions and intent. Think about it, George Orwell's vision of the future had the authorities constantly policing and monitoring citezens, but this has not been the case. Instead, we the people, ourselves are the ones monitoring each other via ubiquitous content creation and social media sharing.

Controller advancements - 1 views

  •
First off, I really stopped playing the major video game titles after I beat Super Mario Bros. II. It took me like 4 months to best Bowser, but once I did and the world pretty much remained the same I lost interest. Still, I cannot say all the new games that have come out recently don't peak my interest. The problem, I have been out of the gaming loop for so long now that I am at a serious disadvantage whenever I play. The controllers have become so complkicated and sensative that I spend most of the initial induction just trying to figure out what the hell I am supposed to do, and what combonation of clicks and toggles prompts the desired effect. Nintendo's Wii however seemingly streamined the learning curve as my body was the primary controller. Sony is now prepping to launch an entirely new controller protocol that uses the functions of the handheld even less. It might even eliminate the need for a controler all together...all body, all movement are calibrated and support the players avatar.

AddictingGames!...Come get your fix. - 0 views

Touting how addictive a video game can become for players is an interesting selling point. I am thinking it means, fast highs, quick death (of avatar, etc) and replayability. I would describe THE MORON TEST available on iTunes as having those addictive qualities.
