Approximately one in five people experience bladder or bowel leakage and they often do not know those simple conservative strategies can make a difference. A team from the UWE is conducting a study to understand the views on the Pharmacy Role In proMotion of continencE (PRIME); learn from current experiences; and explore what is feasible to develop, for improved bladder and bowel continence promotion. The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete and should be completed by one member of staff working within the community pharmacy.

Ginger for Weight Loss Ginger is a flavorsome and natural food that may help you supervise weight. Eating ginger fosters a feeling of fullness, an effect scientists call "satiety." Researchers at Columbia University in New York found that when bulky men drank a hot ginger drink, they had lowered feelings of appetite. Hunger can push us toward the consumption of foodstuffs. In many cases, we let our feelings of hunger evolve firmly, causing us to eat high-calorie edibles rich in sugar and fat, such as processed foods, which are well-documented to boost obesity. According to Research, ginger: Stimulates feelings of fullness Improves blood sugar regulation Decreases the amount of fat the gut absorbs Reduces gut inflammation Boosts the process of thermogenesis Ease digestion by stimulating digestive enzymes Help to Reduce Gas, Bloating, and Nausea Improve the Health of Your Gut How Does it Work? Ginger is most well-known for its ability to ease your stomach, especially when floundering with nausea or bloating issues. In your belly, ginger is doing much better in facilitating weight management and improving your health. The gut microbiota is one of the most comprehensive research areas in obesity. Researchers know that tiny microbes in your gut greatly affect your body weight. Collectively, these little microbes are called gut microbiota. The types of foods consumed impact the gut microbiota. Ginger is one of the most widely used spices and has a healthy effect on gut microbes. Ginger emerges to lower gut inflammation and helps the body be better responsive to insulin, enabling improved blood sugar control and reduced weight gain. A 2020 research study published in the European Journal of Nutrition noted that ginger changed the gut microbiota in rats in a manner that helped reduce obesity. 3 Pharmacists Recognized In Queen's New Year Honours List - 0 views

  •
Three leading pharmacists - professor Mahendra Patel, Asif Aziz and Ade Williams - have been recognised in Queen Elizabeth's annual New Year's honours list. Professor Patel, an academic pharmacist from West Yorkshire, was awarded an OBE for his "services to pharmacy." He told Pharmacy Business: "I am truly honoured and deeply humbled by this highly prestigious award that I have always believed was more deserving for others. "That's not to say I'm not proud of it - far from it, although for me it's not necessarily about rewards and recognition but more the intricacies of the journey I embark on and the learning and joy that those encounters bring with it. Most recently, Professor Patel - who has had a broad ranging portfolio career spanning community pharmacy, health education and health promotion, academia, and research - has been involved in promoting clinical trials across community pharmacies in the UK. His latest work has seen him act as one of the national leads for the PRINCIPLE and PANORAMIC trials, run by Oxford University - both trials seek to pioneer repurposed and new drug treatments in the community to prevent hospitalisation due to Covid-19.

DNP:RPS urges social media to ban content promoting, selling - 0 views

  •
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has called for a 'firm commitment' to prosecuting those making profits through the sale of DNP (2,4-Dinitrophenol). It has also urged the social media companies to 'remove content promoting or selling DNP to further reduce harm'. Legislation to regulate DNP will come into effect on 1 October 2023. On Monday (23 January) it was announced that DNP will be included in the 1972 Poisons Act. President of RPS Professor Claire Anderson said: "DNP is unfit for human consumption and its main use is in the manufacture of explosives and pesticides. It is sold by unscrupulous dealers to vulnerable individuals wanting to lose weight but has a dangerous effect on the metabolism and has led to 32 deaths since 2007 in those taking it as a 'diet drug'. "Including DNP in the Poisons Act is a positive move as it will restrict its availability, but what's really needed is an outright ban to reduce the risk to the public. Australia has already classified DNP as a substance of such a danger to health as to warrant prohibition of sale and we'd like the UK to follow suit.

Ask Your Pharmacist week:Chief officer NI visited pharmacy - 0 views

  •
Northern Ireland's chief pharmaceutical officer paid a visit to a community pharmacy in Belfast on Monday (November 7) - marking the end of this year's Ask Your Pharmacist week, an annual public awareness campaign launched by the National Pharmacy Association. Cathy Harrison interacted with patients and staff in the pharmacy before recording a video to promote NI's 'Pharmacy First' service in which she described community pharmacies as "one of the front doors to the health service" with over 500 outlets located across the country. "In our community pharmacies you can always rely on friendly staff, medicines expertise, and walk-in access to face-to-face advice," she said. First launched in Scotland, the NHS Pharmacy First service enables patients to have a consultation with a pharmacist for advice on minor ailments. Ms Harrison also drew attention to community pharmacy's role in cancer awareness and helping people to quit smoking, as well as managing patients with urinary tract infections, in addition to playing their part in delivering Covid-19 and flu vaccinations.

Beware of Diet Fads When Trying to Shed Pounds - 0 views

  •
It might be actresses such as Suzanne Sommers and Jane Fonda, or models such as Christie Brinkley or Kathy Ireland. It seems that a number of celebrities today offer their own weight loss programs. The programs are appealing because we see these various svelte celebrities and we want to have bodies just like them. The celebrities are also highly likable, so we have a predisposition to be accepting of their products. However, did you ever stop to think whether these celebrities have any nutritional training? Do they have medical training? Is the information that they offer nutritionally sound? Or is it just a good sales pitch? Nutrition experts Annette B. Natow and Jo-Ann Heslin, authors of the book Get Skinny the Smart Way, say that consumers should be leery of celebrity-inspired diet books. They point out that such books are often based upon nutritional fiction and that, while the diets outlined in these books may result in short-term weight loss, they can be far from healthy in the long run. Therefore, you might consider passing up the celebrity diet books and opting for those written by nutritional experts instead. But celebrities aren't the only ones preaching fad diets. For instance, there's the so-called grapefruit diet which recommends consuming a grapefruit prior to each meal. Another fad is the cabbage soup diet, which requires you to consume all the cabbage soup you can handle. Other fads call for eating all the eggs you can…consuming only raw foods…or fasting every other day. Such diets are not only based on nutritional misinformation-they can also be dangerous. For instance, let's take a closer look at the cabbage soup diet. No major health organization has endorsed it. Moreover, the American Heart Association disapproves of it, noting that it can actually harm you. Promoters of this diet say that you can lose as much as 15 pounds a week by following it-what they don't say is that mos
