A description of the new Kindle - new features, same price. Recession makes no difference in setting price. But publishers support the kindle and are increasing the number of books available for download.
Speaking of reading an e-book, our text book for this class is apparently on Google Book Search. Maybe some of you knew that already, but I sure didn't! I like that this page also gives a list of other similar books.
This seems like a pretty fabulous idea to me from the student side....I could see why publishers probably aren't terribly thrilled though. (I'd be interested to see an adaptation for renting e-books, which isn't mentioned in the article as being extant...yet, anyway). Netflix for textbooks, indeed!
New technology allowing users to create their own Commonplace Book:
BookRiff, a Vancouver-based company that promises to allow consumers to mix print content and create their own books and e-books, is scheduled to launch Oct. 6.
The content is, also, free of editorial interference or commercial pressure. The model, enthusiasts say, has a unique ability to capture “the long tail” — providing useful information on a wide swath of esoteric subjects, like how to make pasta in a paper shredder.
