The article, Exponential Attrition and the Promise of Acceleration, June 2010, argues that attrition can be guaranteed in long developmental sequences and presents evidence that one semester, open-access courses are a way to increase student completion rates in college-level English and math.

This editorial points out the pitfalls of online college, identifying student attrition rates (in online courses) and the extra attention that "struggling" students need. The Times advocates for hybrid courses, as well as improving course design for any courses that are delivered 100% online.

Dr. Vincent Tinto is a professor in the School of Education at Syracuse University. His most recent book, Leaving College (also tagged), "lays out a theory and policy perspective on student success that is considered the benchmark by which work on these issues are judged."

Tinto is quoted by RO, in terms of show students how important community and connection are to being successful in college.
