The Group Improv Everywhere - 0 views

  •
The Group Improv Everywhere is postmodern because it takes theater out of the domain of a room with a stage and into the streets but that is not the only reason it is post modern, the performance itself (for the most part) is not staged but simply an idea. Another reason is that the people who participate in the missions find out about the event on the internet using a technology that is post modern because besides the internet there is no other way to find out about the missions or to see them unless someone captures it on a camera and then posts it on a website like Youtube. The main mission of the group was to bring performance art out of the theater and while that has always been around the general chaos (be it good or bad) and lack of plan that occurs in an event is what makes it post modern.

Improv Everywhere: The MP3 Experiment 6 - 0 views

  •
The MP3 Experiment is a mission designed by the group Improv Everywhere where participants all started in one location and listened to an MP3 track designed by the group. The participants were then told to perform tasks such as following around a german tourist or having a battle in the field of bats versus hammers. The idea of this mission created by Charlie Todd a graduate of the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill, the creator of Improv Everywhere was to allow participants to have a unique and enjoyable experience. This video has ties to post modernity because it uses technology as a method of organization and communication, because the entire mission was set up online and there was no face-to-face individual interaction. Another aspect of this video that was postmodern was that the mission's art was in the creating of art and not the art itself like in modern works where only the viewers experienced it, but the participants experienced it as well.

This video helps show how the view of fame has changed as it becomes part of the post modern era. It depicts how Richard Heany potentially used his six year old son to attempt to gain national recognition. It was rumored that this former Wife Swaps contestant planning to create a new reality show in which he and his scientific experiments would be the star. Heany did anything he could to attempt to gain the fleeting attention of today's population. He utilized the sympathetic and curious natures of people and manipulated them in an attempt to make himself a household name.

"Oh No They Didn't", commonly referred to as ONTD, is a celebrity news and gossip site on the blogging site livejournal.com. Sporting the mantra, "the celebrities are disposable. the content is priceless." on the main page, this site stands apart from the countless other celebrity gossip sites out there because its content is largely user-generated, and every member has the ability to post stories if they so choose. All members also have the ability to comment on every post. Along with facilitating the fifteen minutes (or more) of fame for every celebrity chronicled, ONTD has become a place where all bloggers are created equal- no more waiting for Perez Hilton to break a story on his site. As soon as a member gets word of a story, the story is broken, and a free for all can then ensue.

Postmodern manifestations - 1 views

  •
This website involves a group of categories of how post modernism has influenced the arts, from architecture to literature and music and even political science. It shows that post modernism is not just a made up word but rather a style which is to be perfected, even if it means being imperfect as some things are. The website even discusses how post modernity is affecting language, where "the changing relationship between diction and discourse" is influenced by what is considered post modern. Then it discusses art and how its aims to upset and recreate the fundamentals of what makes something art. This is a general principle of post modernity because in most cases anything that is considered post modern goes against the grain of what is considered within the set standards of its category and this website does an excellent job of describing the characteristics it breaks down.

This website discusses what post modernity is as well as the various perceptions that different point of views have on the subject matter. The website talks about how the term first came to be with architecture in 1971 and from there has spawned a whole new genre of books, movies, art, and many others. The main points of view the website contains are the Marxist point of view, the non-Marxists who are critics of the idea of post modernity, and the sociologist who see postmodern aspects of everything around them. It then goes into describing how post modernity influences subjects such as post structuralism, which involves the books having meaning beyond that which the author meant it to have, and many other aspects of human life such as society and politics. The last section deals with why post modernity is a problem because it can be argued that post modernity puts an end to progress. Overall, this website gives an excellent look in to the depths that post modernity can reach in all aspects of life and whether or not such a change will be detrimental to our society.

15 Minutes of Fame: Becoming a Star in the YouTube Revolution - 0 views

  •
This book by Frederick Levy explores the phenomenon that YouTube has become in our world. He addresses YouTube's history, as well as the direction in which the viral video craze is headed. One section of particular interest is titled, "Culture Shock." Levy presents an interesting idea of community through the Web. The thing that makes the YouTube revolution so post-modern is the fact that a sense of community develops through the internet. People around the world can interact and connect with one another with virtually no face-to-face contact. This trend breaks down social norms and cultural expectations previously placed on a community.

A Very Potter Musical - 0 views

  •
This group of videos was a play created by several students at the university of Michigan who wrote the musical based on and parodying the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. They then casted the parts and performed it for a 3 day period of time and 5 times in total at a local non-profit student-run theater company, but was video-taped and put on YouTube. The reason this video is post-modern because if it weren't for YouTube, the play would never have become as popular as it is today, where people around the country know of it. Due to the success of the video series on Youtube, the writers and producers are able to create more and more plays and musicals are becoming exponentially more famous they would have been had a site like Youtube not been created. Now the creators and actors in this musical are appearing on television and such fame would not be possible if the internet and current technology was available.

The Effects of a Post Modern Culture - 0 views

When Post Modernity is connected with pheonomenons such as sexting, it gives the whole concept a very negative connotation. Post Modernity is often thought of as the opposite of modernity, but it really is not that extreme. Post Modernity creates an emphasis on the gray middle ground. This website gives insight to where the negative slant against Post Modernity comes from. The very beginning of the article stands out with the proclamation, "Post Modernity is the denial of any standards." Students are also described as being "apathetic," "skeptical," "board," and "lacking idealism." This website has a very slanted view, however, it will provide insight for those who may not understand why sexting and Post Modernity receive such a bad reputation.

Sexting: The Latest Innovation in Porn - 2 views

  •
This article deals with the latest phenomenon of sexting which the author considers to be the post modern form of flirting. Sexting seems to have not only shaped the younger generation but it has played a part in how younger kids regard erotic situations. It also examines the ways in which the technology advancements of today have shaped the way the younger generation approaches pornography and how the mobile ability of cell phones makes it so much easier to engage in such activity. "21st century media technology makes everyone a moviemaker, distributor and presenter. Sexting makes everyone, including teenagers, pornographers." This alone shows how post modern sexting is in that there is no longer a hierarchy. Now the masses have the control and are able to decide what the content is which affirms the idea that everyone, by way of user generated content, is able to do what they please and even have their fifteen minutes of fame or in this case, fifteen minutes of exposure.
