Australia defeated India in the ODI World Cup final on November 19, 2023, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, thanks to a strong performance from Travis Head. With Head scoring 137 from 120 balls, Australia defeated India by six wickets.
India was bowled out for 240 in the final, and Australia won thanks to Head's 192-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out). Head took a catch to eliminate Rohit Sharma and was named Player of the Match.
Head has a talent for doing well in pivotal games. He made a century against India in the World Test Championship final earlier in June 2023. In a similar vein, Head scored an undefeated 154 against England on September 19, 2024.
India will meet England in the third One-Day International at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

In choosing his dream team for the Champions Trophy 2025, former Indian cricketer-turned-pundit Sanjay Manjrekar made a fairly bold decision.
Even if the majority of India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 team will be obvious choices, there are still several important areas where fans, pundits, and past cricket players disagree. The position of wicketkeeper batter in Team India's lineup is one of the most controversial, and there are three excellent contenders for it. In ODIs, KL Rahul has long been the go-to wicketkeeper batsman, but Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are also very much in the running. Sanjay Bangar and Sanjay Manjrekar, two former Indian cricket players, have now sparked controversy by excluding Pant from their 15-man Champions Trophy selection.
Only in 2024, when India went on a three-match series visit of Sri Lanka, did Pant make a comeback to competitive ODI cricket. But neither Bangar nor Manjrekar supported Pant's selection.
"Pant took a long break from cricket. He never had that kind of form in ODI cricket, but he did make a strong comeback in T20Is and Test matches. According to Hindustan Times, former India batting coach Bangar stated on Star Sports that KL Rahul ought to be your first-choice keeper.
In order to pick Sanju Samson as India's backup wicketkeeper for the Champions Trophy, Manjrekar batted instead of Rishabh Pant.
"I've been a strong supporter of Samson. Indeed, at first he wasn't scoring runs, and perhaps he isn't a good fit down in the order. However, Manjrekar stated, "I agree with Sanjay Bangar on Pant if India wants a big hitter for the final ten overs."
In the three games of the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Pant only appeared in one. He didn't make an impression when he came in to bat at number four, managing to score only six runs in nine balls.
However, Samson hasn't made his argument any stronger either. Samson did not attend a team camp; hence, despite his impressive performance in Twenty20 Internationals.
