I think it is particularly true in this era of social media that we tend to hear only from/about people who are like us. Deep discussion of issues cannot thrive in this sort of an environment. There are many talented, insightful folks writing on their own blogs about important topics, but I don't have time to seek them out, read them, and understand what they're saying in order to form an opinion.
