Quad blog- cultural awareness - Flat Classrooms - 0 views

  •
"Cultural awareness in the context of a global project reaches further than using correct 'netiquette', inclusive language and knowing what time zone your group members are from. At the core of cultural awareness is respecting and embracing cultural difference and valuing the cultural learning taking place." A collection of resources for looking at digital citizenship through the areas of awareness 'cultural'.

Teaching with Technology: The flatter the better - 1 views

  •
Great reflection blog post from Sunny, a teacher in Australia who ventured to the Flat Classroom Conference in Japan! Full of ideas I've headed home - collected my thoughts and hope to put some of the plans we made as teams into action - because flattening our world - connected across the globe to share experience, help each other and learn together is what education should be about. Final presentations and more about the conference can be accessed at http://conference2013.flatclassroomproject.org/home

"Collaborative projects broaden teachers' horizons, too, connecting them with colleagues from around the world. Vicki Davis (@coolcatteacher) and Julie Lindsay (@julielindsay), founders of the Flat Classroom Project, had never met face-to-face when they launched their first collaborative project several years ago. Now, they have co-authored a book, Flattening Classrooms, Engaging Minds to share their field-tested insights about collaborative PBL. They lead teachers from around the world on several "flat" projects annually, using technology to overcome distances and connect learners in shared inquiry and problem solving. "

Flat Classroom Project 12-2 - M&U Current News B - History - 0 views

  •
If you look at this editing tab, you can see that GrantG did a great job in his comments of documenting what he did. If we can get more students documenting their work as they edit, it makes the process of collaborative writing more powerful and faster as well as the ability to see what happened where. ""I wrote an introductory paragraph for our section. I asked my teacher and she said that because our topic has to do with current news, we can organize it in a way that includes introduction and conclusion paragraphs with a more list-like format in the middle. This is the reason I added a section for examples. Feel free to add relevant current news information as you find it!""

Post Reflection Post - Flat Classroom Project - 0 views

This is an excellent post-reflective post from a fantastic student. You can see that she drafted in a word processor and pasted it in and then embedded the videos. Knowing how to use features of various programs in tandem is part of being fluent in software. Not just can they use one program or another but can they use them together to become more efficient and effective in the task at hand.

Three Ways to Create a Digital Classroom Library for Your Students | Angela Maiers, Spe... - 4 views

  •
This article is perfect for librarians wanting to utilize free books and help students "check them out" (if you can even use that term.) Here are three methods, the only thing I would add is that you can create a library with Evernote instead of springpad as well. Pass this one on. "three methods for creating and sharing a digital classroom library with your students. In all three cases, I'm going to assume that you have a source of free eBooks (Amazon's Free Popular Classics, Google's Play Store Top Free Books, or Project Gutenberg) and an app to read those books (Amazon's Kindle app, Google's Play Books app, Aldiko for Android, or iBooks for iOS)."

10 Ways for Living Large in Lunch Duty Land - 0 views

  •
As I look back on the best of last year and am looking month by month, this blog post about Living large in lunch duty land got quite a bit of response. Each time you are around children you have time to make a difference in the life of a child. I have lunch duty next week and instead of being crabby about it, I'm going to challenge myself to live large, interact with students and make a difference. Take a reminder about lunch duty or any duty when you interact with students.

Playing Globally| The Committed Sardine - 0 views

  •
Article by Andrew Churches, http://edorigami.edublogs.org/, talking about the benefits of global learning, and gives a great wrap for Flat Classroom. "Our classrooms are not limited to the four walls of the physical building we teach in but can encompass the entirety of the planet. Technology-much of which is free-has enabled us to push back the classroom walls and stretch our virtual arms across the globe to shake hands with classrooms and students almost anywhere."

Cool Coding | Inquiring Minds - 1 views

  •
Excellent blog post by @ToscaKilloran about coding using Scratch - from an amazing PYP teacher in Germany who really gets it! Great resources - video and websites - shared. Love it when she says, "However, the real goal rests not in the student's ability to code, but the complex network of skills that are contained within coding. Among other things, this entails thinking logically and algorithmically but also creatively, and collaboratively."

Mobl21 - Multiple Mobile Devices, One Solution - 1 views

  •
Mobile devices are an important part of deploying knowledge and content delivery. This system is relatively inexpensive and not only uses an app but can link to sms and interactive voice response in countries without a lot of access. Exciting potential for this one.
