"After more more than a decade of e-safety work in UK schools, the evidence suggests that most young people, who are supported and informed, know the key e-safety issues and are able to stay safe online."
This blog post really resonates with me. Content delivery is only part of the answer to teaching and learning now. All teachers and schools need to broaden their horizons.
This is my public evernote notebook where I'm sharing notes about global collaboration in education, technology, and my notes from conferences. If you're following the leading edge of technology and use evernote, you can use this notebook to keep abreast of the things I'm collecting in this area. I've added Julie Lindsay to the notebook, so, we'll look to collect there as well.
Evernote shared notebooks are great ways to share collections of information in a slightly different format than bookmarks.
"SpeakingImage is an application for creating interactive images and share them with others.
You can also create groups, add wikis and set different permissions to manage collaborative work "
Students from the A Week in the Life Project 12-2 talk about their schools. This is an excellent artifact for comparing similarities and differences between lifestyles and cultures.
Created by Julie, Jason and Tasha as their 'quad-blogging' assignment for the Flat Classroom Certified Teacher course 12-1
Excellent resources and comments!
A list of essential tools created by a technology integrator and IB teacher. Used by PYP students for their exhibition work. Of all the tools in the world, it is hard to narrow down to 7, but I admire this teacher for their thoughtfulness in doing so and in sharing with us!
A cool app that helps you sign documents in gmail without having to export and sign and scan. I have a Flat Classroom project manager, Theresa Allen, who showed me this handy app.
Duane Robertson has some fantastic examples of how he gets students started on editing their wiki. I love how his second step says "become part of the family." The use of checklists and pointers helps so much in collaboration and helping people get started.
Flat Classroom will run another global live event in Hawaii, July 24-26 2013. plan to join us now!
"Educators and students interested in global issues and improving their international connections should join this conference."
My friend Toni Olivieri-Barton mentioned this in a FLAT Session yesterday where we were talking about global collaboration. It is a Video mail sharing site where you flip and send video back and forth. Toni said she'd like to try it with students. This would be interesting to try. This is better than text email for families separated by time - you can do a video message. Interesting. There are also apps for it.
I always love reading Jason Graham's blog - it is rich with shared learning experiences, and about students (he teaches 6 year olds!) connecting, collaborating and co-creating.
Interesting project that potentially joins students across countries and cultures to discuss and create media based on 'Does my digital me reflect the real me?'
RSS is still here. I like this RSS guide written for students at LaGuardia College. Students should know how to build an RSS reader and subscribe to things like Google news search and google scholar to build a research tool that will pull information to you on the topics of interest.
This hangout organised by Amanda and Roland while some of us were at GAFE Brisbane last week, talks about how to run a hangout - tips, tricks and curriculum objectives.
Excellent resource covering Wallwisher, Socrative, and Todays Meet with step-by-step guides for setting up and using in the classroom. Downloadable as well in PDF.
This article about brainstorming blog content is written for nonprofits but applicable to anyone. If you have a team brainstorming blog content, you should read and share this article. Journal and keep an idea list of what to blog about.
Hackpad is an interesting tool. It claims to be a wiki but is more google doc-ish. They call them "smart" collaborative documents. You'll still need emails to invite people. It would be interesting to try out because you can link to other pads using the @ sign and it is also suited to iPHone and Android tools.
