Great post covering the basics of google maps. Segue...I had a great session with grade 2 integrating their map reading and story writing. Planned out a map and dropped markers on various landmarks around melb. Students in pairs were then allocated a marker with corresponding landmark and then had to write their part of the story. Interesting post from a prolific Ed blogger who has always written about Ed and the "bleeding edge" worth following and very readable. This post posits that if we are to introduce a non Americanised version of PBL then we should expect systematic change over a long period of time so that it becomes ingrained in the learning culture of the school. I particularly like this position because it takes into account the longevity of the teachers capacity not only to with stand the change but also to be part of the new paradigm.

This ties in with the iPad Pd we did last Wednesday. Outlines and discusses the importance of documentation. Technology has the capacity to document the student learning experience and better still tech will facilitate students doing for them selves.

Some great ideas here for connecting Math to real world occurrences. It is heavily American but this site could be a source of great ideas for the student that needs extending

I did this today bought the iphone app when it should have been the ipad app. Duh! So here might be a solution. I am just waiting on the receipt so I can make a claim. It was worth a cuppa coffee but hey if you buy 10 that starts to add up. 

Creativity is the act of thinking. Whether you are deliberately engaged in thought for the purpose of making novel connections or in a state of incubation where the creative process is happening somewhere in the deep unconscious it is thinking that you are doing. Making thinking visible is a must read and have for all schools who are wanting to promote thinking. The thinking  routines outlined in this book are easily implemented and have robust research from Harvard Graduate School Of Education that demonstrate their effectiveness.
