12 Easy Ways to Use Technology in Your Classroom, Even for Technophobic Teachers - 4 views

  •
This article presents 12 ways for teachers to easily integrate technology into the classroom. Even with basic ideas of creating a class website or using an online grading system, teachers are able to move away from traditional forms of teaching and are able to connect with others in new ways. Once technology starts to be incorporated in the classroom, I think teachers are willing to explore new programs and software, or simply learn to use one tool in multiple ways to benefit their classroom.

Technology Doesn't Teach, Teachers Teach - 2 views

  •
This article raises the issue that teachers are constantly being thrown new technologies in their classrooms. It's the job of school districts to make sure that teachers using new technology are aware of how to fully utilize these items. I completely agree that districts have to step up and make better efforts to educate teachers on the inevitable growth of technology in the classroom.

This is a great article that describes using technology to extend the learning of our students in a social studies classroom. The article highlights some great web-based sources for social studies teachers such as the Virginia Center for Digital History.

Mincraft in the Classroom - 4 views

This article explains how a teacher used the game Minecraft to help teach his first and second graders real world lessons. This "virtual lego" world will have students doing team work task that the teacher created before the class, in which they have to work together to solve puzzles. This is a great bridge between student and technology. Students are able to expand on their imagination and creativity to create such amazing worlds and do different tasks. This was a huge success for the teacher and showed an outstanding response.

Love it! :) I don't know if you know the Apple guys at the high school, but they were able to fix a "bug" with all the student computers before Apple even had a fix and they credited their solution to playing Minecraft! :)

This post answers the age old question "What do "real' teachers do with their Saturday morning other than sleep?" As a result of a great twitter national education forum on NPR's "Tell Me More" I came across this story of 200 teachers who get together on twitter every Saturday morning to discuss best practices.

Making the Case for Mobile Tech Expansion - 1 views

  •
This article explores the use of mobile phones for education purposes. The author says that instead of banning the use of cell phones and smart phones in school, teachers should embrace this technology and teach students how to utilize mobile capabilities in constructive and educationally appropriate ways. This gives a fresh perspective on the outlook of cell phones in schools and would be a great article for a teacher who might be reluctant to let students use mobile devices in class.

Lots of opposing viewpoints on the use of cell phones in the classroom! Will you let your students use them?

Technology powers math class at Dos Pueblos High School - 0 views

  •
This article talked about how useful wireless calculators can be in a math classroom. The software allows the teacher to see what students are doing on their calculator and see if they are actually understanding the material. It also helps keep all students focused on the lesson because they know that the teacher can see if they are on task and can call on them at any time.

In this article, it addresses the technology that is locked away in classrooms because it takes too much time to successfully implement them in the classroom. Technology has been proven successful in the classroom by individualizing learning for students. Technology can help the teacher track the progress of students and free up time to work on other skills (problem solving, critical thinking and social development). This article has additional resources about technology in the classroom. Janice Rose
