2 min. tech tip # 3 - What is Flip teaching? | ict4kids.ca - 3 views

  •
I bookmarked this to elaborate on 2 other articles I found because it is a very nice and visual tool describing the concept of a "flipped classroom." As a homework hater this concept is very exciting to me that the student come to class ready to engage rather than expecting the student to carry on enthusiasm at home AFTER the lecture. There are diagrams and drawings which really help me comprehend and remember an article. There are also useful links at the end. I will revisit this site for more articles that are as visually pleasing.

Technology Doesn't Teach, Teachers Teach - 2 views

  •
This article raises the issue that teachers are constantly being thrown new technologies in their classrooms. It's the job of school districts to make sure that teachers using new technology are aware of how to fully utilize these items. I completely agree that districts have to step up and make better efforts to educate teachers on the inevitable growth of technology in the classroom.

The Ten Fundamental Reasons for technology in education - 2 views

  •
This article was wrote in 2007 about why technology in the classroom is important. I find that these ten points are still reasons why technology should be introduced into the classroom. A text book is only one way to learn and technology: web, computers, apps can open up so many more doorways to learning.

Mincraft in the Classroom - 4 views

  •
This article explains how a teacher used the game Minecraft to help teach his first and second graders real world lessons. This "virtual lego" world will have students doing team work task that the teacher created before the class, in which they have to work together to solve puzzles. This is a great bridge between student and technology. Students are able to expand on their imagination and creativity to create such amazing worlds and do different tasks. This was a huge success for the teacher and showed an outstanding response.

Love it! :) I don't know if you know the Apple guys at the high school, but they were able to fix a "bug" with all the student computers before Apple even had a fix and they credited their solution to playing Minecraft! :)

Technology Tools for Teaching & Learning - 5 views

  •
I really like this website because it organizes technology tools according to learning objectives. As we discussed during week one, it is not just using technology in the classroom for the purpose of using technology, but it should be used to enhance learning by getting students engaged. This website reinforces this idea by displaying first what needs to be accomplished, and then offers the tools and links to get students involved in the learning process.

As High-Stakes Online Testing Approaches, Will Your Ipads Work? - 1 views

  •
This article discusses the future possibility of taking classroom exams on tablets. Tablet manufacturers are slowly providing the necessary security that would be needed to support this change. As with all advance in technology, there are pros and cons that need to be weighed and considered. There is even mention of a future possibility of BYOTD (bring your own testing device).
  •
Great source for this article. As schools begin to move to more devices like the Tablets, this will definitely impact testing. I enjoyed reading about "locking down the device" as more and more tests are taken online.

Making the Case for Mobile Tech Expansion - 1 views

  •
This article explores the use of mobile phones for education purposes. The author says that instead of banning the use of cell phones and smart phones in school, teachers should embrace this technology and teach students how to utilize mobile capabilities in constructive and educationally appropriate ways. This gives a fresh perspective on the outlook of cell phones in schools and would be a great article for a teacher who might be reluctant to let students use mobile devices in class.
  •
Lots of opposing viewpoints on the use of cell phones in the classroom! Will you let your students use them?

Bill Gates on Tablets in the Classroom - 0 views

  •
In this interview, Bill Gates discusses why he thinks "a low-cost PC" may be a more effective learning aid than a tablet. We're all aware of the obvious business biases here, but as a clearly defined leader in the world of technology, I think Gates presents a valid argument. What good is a tech device of any sort if the curriculum fails to effectively incorporate it as a learning aid?
  •
Lots of talk out there about the technology tools without paying much attention to how it will be used. Good find!

This is a great article that describes using technology to extend the learning of our students in a social studies classroom. Emphasis is placed on the importance of using technology to make our teaching better and that teachers must be involved in a constant and consistent training program. •
Stephanie: I like how this article doesn't leave the content behind. It was a wonderful "reinforcement" of the idea that technology needs to help and support the learning in a new way. Great find.

This article is about using blogs in science and math class. David R. Wetzel offer some ideas for teachers on how to use the bogs correctly and how using blogs benefit the students. I liked the idea of posting " how to" videos on the classroom for math problems.
  •
Great article, Jennifer. So many of our math and science teachers post short videos on their websites to show students/remind students of the steps. You'll learn how to do this, also, this month.
