We all know that voice recognition software exists having been created by companies like Apple, some of us thought that advanced technology would end at a computer recognizing words and responding to questions. However that is not the case. A company called Kimera Systems is developing a system that figuratively reads your mind. This isn't a software that literally reads what you are thinking and performs an action based on your thought since that would require an implant into your body. Rather, Kimera's system consisting of the Salience Engine and DigitalMe (or DMe) Smart Agents. The Salience Engine collects information from its users and uses this to understand human action better while the Smart Agents perform actions based on the user's preferences and the user's previous actions. For example, if a user sent out party invitations to friends and then went out to buy groceries, Kimera's system would automatically download a shopping app for the user because the system understands the user is going to the grocery store to buy select food items. This system, should it be implemented into future phones and devices could very well change society for the better and for worse. This system could make people's lives better by allowing decisions to be made by the system for the user so they can worry about other things while knowing Kimera's system will take care of tasks for them. This could negatively impact society though because since the system automatically makes decisions for the user, if they begin to rely on this system and lose their sense of judgement rendering them unable to decide without this system. Though automated technology is the dream of many, is an automated life really what we want? From this new technology Kimera is creating, other more advanced automated technologies could arise and eventually we could end up losing our humanity since everything we need to do is done for us by a computer. The new Nexus 10 is better than the iPad because it's lighter, it's thinner, it's easier to hold, and it has big loud speakers you can actually hear. The iPad feels precious and glass wants to shatter. The aluminum just wants to get scratched and dent. The Nexus 10 feels like it's built for working and playing. Its outer shell is made out of rubber so you can grip it. The edges are sloped so you can hold it in a variety of ways. The Nexus 10 has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 which is better than the iPads 2048 x 1536. The Nexus 10's wide screen is good for movies and is great for playing games because the speakers are on the front. The Nexus 10 supports multiple users on one tablet, the iPad doesn't. This is portable computing because the Nexus 10 has some many better things than the iPad and you get your money's worth if you do get the Nexus 10. 

This year is going to be one of the NBA's most anticipated seasons of all time. Watching last year in only a 66 game season you could see how much more entertaining the NBA is getting. Now with the moves the Los Angeles Lakers have made by adding Dwight Howard and Canada's own Steve Nash to the lineup could make for a very entertaining season along with the Miami Heat that are coming off champions from last season and one of the greatest seasons ever done by Lebron James. The Heat and Lakers could both make the finals which will provide the first ever Lebron vs. Kobe Finals which would settle the debate on who would be better. Overall this season is just looking better and better the closer we get to it starting.

This article was a piece of knowledge to one who is looking for a better browser. I find it convenient that this new and improved Firefox is better. This browser would be more efficient and to myself I find that much better. When the pages load faster and you have the ability to accomplish more things without a struggle it makes me use the certain browser more. You can even see the HTML which is also useful when you want to see how a certain thing was done. 

The iPad3 will be releasing in March 7. There are lots of rumors about the new iPad is going to be a smaller version that the iPad2. The iPad3 might be going to be 8 inches or 10 inches plus running at a 4G speed. It will be a better graphic, better processor and better battery life. The iPad3 will be running in A6 processor. More likely around 1 GB or ram

Over the years, Samsung has been working hard to improve their phones. We are expecting to have a very good phone. Compared to the last Samsung Galaxy note we are expecting to have better grip and a longer battery life. Also it has a better camera and has something called an S pen which you can use to control the phone. I personally am looking forward to see this phone and if it is what they really say it is.

On cell phones they have maps. They are creating a new one that shows the many stores that are in New York, and where they are specifically located. Another feature is by touching the stores name it show tweets from each store that promote their sales. They will be charging people to have these privileges. This relates to the course because it shows how technology is evolving.

This article is about NYC launching a better map app for tourist. The new app is going to be a big improvement so that tourist can find specific stores better. 

This article touches on a very important topic about whether technology is helping the economy and job markets more or if it is in fact hurting it. The answer is they do both. The New York Times among others write that tech companies have created relatively few jobs compared to industries such as GM. However TechCrunch argues that technology has created a lot more indirect jobs due to technology. There are in fact new jobs created such as social media marketers online. Most of these jobs are part-time because they are online and connect employers and workers with no hassle. Their conclusion is that there are millions of jobs created with a high demand but an unprepared workforce. The jobs that are needed now are more technology based than ever before and our economy is moving so fast in that direction that some skills that were needed in the past are no longer needed now. Therefore people are losing jobs not because there are not enough jobs produced but because our job market is drastically changing.  Some companies are allowing people to step into job positions with just a bit of online training or courses. Startups like General assembly are creating programs that are accessible to everyone and helps address the needs of the labor market. The final verdict is we need better training tools to quickly acquire high demanded skills and help workers adapt to the change that technology brings to the labour market. This article relates to economics and eLifestyle mostly because it has to do with how our economy is growing from the jobs created by technology but also how our workers have to respond to this change. In early December of this year Intel is going to come out with a new NUC (Next Unit of Computing) mini-PC. This mini-PC has everything a normal PC except its more compact. Its motherboard is 4x4inches and held by four screws to put memory, its PCIe cards, and its power cord. The PCIe slots accommodate half height cards, for WiFi, mSata, and you can put a full height card. The mini-PC holds a core i3 processor, HD 4000 graphics, two SoDIMM sockets, mSATA and mini-PCIe interfaces, one to two HDMI and three USB 2.0 connectors. The DC3217BY model carries a Gigabit Ethernet which favours Thunderbolt and everything listed above. The mini-PC will be priced from $300-$320 and sold on Amazon and Eggdrop. This portable computing by it's so small that it fits in your jacket, blazer, and purse. Many people won't need to buy big bags for their computer. Its economics because more PC companies will have to come out with better computers than the mini-PC or join in the race to build the best mini-PC. PC companies will have to make their computers cheaper to compete with the mini-PC. Overall it's good for the consumer because you many companies competing and making their products cheaper and better.  

This article is about how just recently, companies Apple and HTC have signed a 10-year licensing deal meaning that every single one of Apple's and HTC's lawsuits filed against each other has now been settled. Both have been sued by each other for infringing on each other's patents. This new licencing deal means that the companies can use each other's patents to a certain extent- giving their phones an edge over the rest of the smartphone market. HTC says they signed the deal to focus on making better products instead of spending so much time dealing with court. Some analysts say that Apple settled the lawsuits quickly to deal with Samsung and their lawsuits towards them. Apple has signed agreements previously with Nokia and Microsoft allowing them to use certain patents. I chose the tag of portable computing because both Apple and HTC produce many successful smartphone portable computing. Hopefully this deal will help improve both of their smartphone operations benefiting us consumers. In my opinion I think that this whole suing fest (lack of a better word) that has been going on recently is pretty silly as many cases don't seem as if they are worthy to be being sued about. I am glad to see that Apple has settled their disputes with HTC to cut down on this smartphone lawsuit drama.

Social news website Reddit may soon have a feature where ads may be downvoted or upvoted, much like the content shared by users. This is one of few websites to currently have this approach with advertisements.  This is rather significant because if people are able to downvote advertisements that they feel are intrusive, ugly and downright annoying, and upvote advertisements that are funny, interesting and better, then we can see advertising companies change their tactics to make better ads for all of us. This can result in a win/win situation where companies generate real views on their ads and people are more inclined to buy their products, as opposed to being annoying by these companies and skipping over and trying to find ways around these ads by using extensions such as AdBlock.  If more websites use this feature then maybe people will start to like ads again, as they will see ads that they want to see, there may be a change in the advertising market where we will see an influx of more creative and interesting advertisements instead of the boring and tedious ones we mostly have today.

Google is looking to expand its high-speed internet service, Google Fiber, into the city of Austin in Texas. Google Fiber is an internet service that offers ultra-fast Gigabit internet speeds with no bandwidth caps that no other provider in Canada and the United States offer for a price under $120.  This is because there are major internet service providers who create a monopoly over the entire industry keeping all their prices the same so they maximize their profits and offer sub-par internet connection.  With Google Fiber, these companies will have to provide better internet or they won't be able to compete, so many people want Google Fiber to expand as fast as possible over North America so that the monopoly is broken and people are given better internet.   This plays into eLifestyle because Gigabit internet connections with unlimited bandwidth will allow most people who pay for internet to pay less, have a more reliable connection and have faster speeds. This also plays into economics because Google Fiber will allow small businesses to use the internet without fear of high costs.

This article discusses that soon, video cameras will be able to predict your next move.  By using technology similar to that used in Microsoft's Kinect and Google's self-driving cars, the cameras are getting better and better at spotting and identifying certain objects. The step the researchers are on now is creating a "cognitive engine" so that a computer can decide whether or not those objects are misbehaving and whether or not they are about to. This will defiantly make a thief's/shoplifter's job much harder. This new software can be implemented for not only military purposes, but also civilian situations. For example airports.( if someone is leaving a suspicious package somewhere.) This kind of technology will make our everyday lives much safer because it will prevent things such as theft, terrorism, etc.  This software is not complete yet but it's coming together very swiftly. On October 29, 2012 Google will unveil its new Android operating system called Android 4.2 or an update of Jelly Bean. Google will be showing Samsung Electronics Nexus 10 tablet and LG Electronics will be showing their first phone the Nexus 4 and the Nexus will be showed but won't be for sale until July of next year. This will be Google's biggest Nexus unveil with three new products. Google said that its new Nexus 10 tablet has a higher resolution camera of the iPad 3 and the Nexus 10 will have a pricing similar to the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Galaxy Note 10.1. I chose portable computing as one of my tags because now many companies are starting to unveil new tablets at a much lower price than usual and with better quality. Tablets are becoming more and more popular with people because of size and versatility and it's becoming a more competitive market. I chose economics as my other tag because tablets are becoming cheaper and with better apps, components, and size. A lot of companies are selling more of them so it is a competitive market and companies have to come with new tablets within a few months.

This article is about how Best Buy will close 50 box stores and open 100 mobile shops. I found this really interesting how our society has changed so much. Now our most used devices are being replaced with newer, better, faster and smaller devices. It is interesting to see how times change. Best Buy will now change its merchandise to better suit the market. I cant imagine Best Buy without TV's.  

This new Ford has the latest version of its infontainment system "SYNC with MyFord Touch." SYNC is voice-activated technology which connects your smartphone and MP3 player to your car's dashboard and steering wheel. It launched in 2007 and now there are 4 million Ford cars in North America with SYNC. The latest evolution is called MyFord Touch, a fully integrated "cabin tech" system. Ford has not only been a leader in car infotainment systems, it has also adopted the software paradigm of iterative upgrades. At the end of last year it announced free upgrades for MyFord. This relates to the course because it shows how technology is getting better and better.

apple adding a 64-bit chip in their new iphone 5s and 5c instead of a 32-bit chip that was added to the old iphones in my opinion is better and makes apps and the phone run faster. everything in the phone now runs smoother then ever, apps won't just shut off on you when it cant handle it and you can run 64-bit games now to like blade 3, which won't work on the old iphones or ipods that have 32-bit chips. This will also make the camera on the phone run faster and the new futures added to the camera app will run smoother now. My opinion on adding the 64-bit chip is that is a great improvement to the phone and the phone will work way more better.
