Disruptions: Using Addictive Games to Build Better Brains - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
Many people, especially children my age are addicted to simple games that are frustratingly amusing which makes them even more determined to play it over and over and over again. For example, Flappy Bird. I see so many people investing x amount of precious time into it, just to get a pixelated bird through the most tubes as possible. This usually results in a) anger and humiliation for not getting pass at least 1 tube b) zero attention payed during important class lectures c) less study time and failing courses. However to at least stop more people from failure, neurologists are trying to develop another addictive game for people to play which secretly builds up your brain via subliminal messaging. By knowing the foundation of the addictive power of a game and manipulating it, researchers aim to keep people interested while subconsciously giving them a stronger and healthier brain. This is something that can be really amazing because the mass majority who wastes time on silly games like Flappy Bird might actually be receivers of benefit - gaining knowledge and useful skills without even realizing it.

'Minecraft: Pocket Edition' Surpasses 21 Million Copies Sold; Title Update 15 Releases ... - 1 views

  •
Minecraft PE is one of the greatest apps ever. Minecraft PE has stood on its head since it's release and is one of the most popular apps of all time. Minecraft was originally a PC game but some may say that the Pocket Edition has proven to be better. So will Mojang(the creator) slowly add more content or will a new follow up be at large?
  •
Minecraft PE can be a very enjoyable game. Over 21 million copies of this seven dollar game was sold since its initial realise for the Xperia PLAY on August 16, 2011. I fined did really interesting that this game is doing so well. The mobile version so far, has 7 million more copies sold than the PC version. The PE version still does not allow redstone placement, although it can be mined and used in crafting recipes, and have near infinite worlds. I believe many of the customers are first time players who want to try the game at a lower cost. Although I do like the Pocket edition version, the PC version just has more to offer with the possibilities of mods an online multiplayer game modes.

Sony Unveils Virtual Reality Headset - NYTimes.com - 2 views

  •
The future of gaming is set and Sony has clearly decided to be apart of it. At a recent conference, the company displayed a sleek prototype of a headset that will give players a high definition, panoramic view of the game as if they were present in the server, all in 3D. Sony has already sold thousands of headsets to developers and is inspired and encouraged to make their own virtual reality game and are looking forward to working with new technology. I think that this new format of gaming would be really interesting and futuristic. Certainly, the game play would be more realistic as I don't think there would be as much restrictions to pressing a sequence of buttons, when technically using the headset would allow you to act out exactly what you want to happen. Although I am aware of the dangers of virtual reality due to a specific anime, the fact that technology has made it so far is purely amazing.

Candy Crush Saga - Does It Deserve Being One of the Top Games on Facebook? - 0 views

  •
This article is about the app that has been #1 for the past months. Its Candy crush created by King Digital Entertainment. This game is a match-three puzzled video game that now is everywhere. Including the apple app store, google play store, facebook, pc and more. It is so popular that there are 46 million average monthly users and its worth $22.50 per share in the stock market. However, does this game deserve being one of the best game app? I think that it does deserve being one of the best games in mobile. There are similar popular games such as jewel mania but candy crush has bubbly colourful visuals, different storyline/goal for every set of levels, and it looks delicious. Also when you are stuck, you can ask your friends to help in social networks which i think helps the game to be known more. King is still installing new features and new levels to it. So I don't think this game will go away anytime soon especially with all the advertisement it's in and the popularity.

  •
Battlefield 3, a new first-person shooter video game from EA and DICE, has hit the ground running with great sales numbers and a slew of online problems. The game, released Oct. 25, was hit with serious problems in its first weekend, Kotaku reports. Gamers were blocked from going online and joining multiplayer games. Other players were booted mid-game thanks to widespread server issues. These faults haven't stopped Battlefield 3 from shipping more than 10 million copies of the game, according to EA, with more than 2.2 million players logging in to play online

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation Lets You Assassinate Anywhere | TechnoBuffalo - 1 views

  •
If you may not know what Assassian Creed is, assassin's creed is a game that is available in both xbox and play station three. This game is leaded to teenage boys.  They would describe assassin creed as an amazing action, scifi game.  Many players have been waiting for the release of this game.  For a time, many gamers could take the same level of graphics, immersion and play ability with them on the road.  The writer of the article, is second guessing about the portable entry of Assassin's Creed.  Assassin's Creed Three, Liberation live- action commercial is all about.

UK court says Apple notice was 'false and misleading,' orders full repayment of Samsung... - 0 views

  •
As many of us may or may not know, Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung for apparently copying Apple's iPad when Samsung released the Galaxy Tab. However, the UK court ordered Apple to repay Samsung after proving that the information Apple provided in the lawsuit was false and misleading leading to proof that Samsung didn't copy Apple. Apple made two apologies to Samsung and will now have to repay Samsung all the money they sued them for.  This has to do with the legal tag because the lawsuit from Apple and Apple's compensation to Samsung are both legal actions. These actions also have to do with following the law since Apple wrongfully accused Samsung of copying which is against the law. I think that the UK court's decision is just because a company cannot sue another company just because they are remotely similar. If they could then we would have very little options when it comes to technology. For example, the first company to release a first person shooter game would be the only FPS game since the company could sue other game companies for copying their game genre. I just think Apple's lawsuit against Samsung was really just unreasonable in general.

The "Nuclear" Option for Total Facebook App Privacy - 0 views

  •
Facebook is now offering the option to disallow all applications from sharing and/or accessing your information. Currently, there is a lot of talk about privacy on the internet and how a lot of people don't like having advertisements and notifications shoved into their face every time they use social networking sites or play games.  Nowadays a lot of games have 'share' options built into them that allows you to share useless achievements such as how many cows you bought or how much wheat you need to feed them. This annoys many people who use social networking sites to just talk with friends and get up-to-date information from pages they liked.  The 'nuclear' option will allow people who do not want to be bothered by friends' status updates on games and also people who don't want applications to share what they are doing to others without them knowing or without their consent. This may cause many game developers to change tactics on how they want to attract users from sites such as Facebook because they don't want to risk getting blocked by everyone.

Nintendo 3DS outselling four Sony devices in Japan, now has 65 percent of the market --... - 1 views

  •
This article is all about Nintendo 3DS outselling four Sony devices in Japan, now has 65 percent of the market. Japan's Media Create are showing that last year's trend has been fully reversed. Now consumers are hungry for 3DS because 3DS has more games compare to PS Vita. 3DS has a lot of good games, right now Kingdom of Hearts is the best selling game for the 3DS but sony can't compete with it because their PS Vita doesn't have good games to compete with it. A marked turnaround from when the console's future looked gloomy.

PS Vita gets (another) firmware update, free-to-play Montezuma Blitz available now -- E... - 0 views

  •
This article is all about the new firmware version update for PS Vita. It's been a week since the last one, but Sony's now begun rolling out firmware version 1.67. In this update there's no detail about the changes but you can pick up the PS Vita's latest free game, Montezuma Blitz, a Bejewelled-style puzzle game. However, it's not the first game to be offered up free on the Vita and some pesky in-game purchases taint that freebie status a little.

Playing 'Pokémon' with 35,000 people is frustratingly fun | The Verge - 0 views

  •
This article is about a channel on a game streaming site that allows users to 'join in'. The channel's creator, Polygon, has formulated a way in translating chat comments into control inputs. Over the past few days this Pokemon game has received over 35 000 players typing in commands all at the same time, causing lag and a lack of cooperation. However, despite the slow progress in leading the hero around the playing field, players are still determined to defeat the game's eight gym leaders. What is really amazing about this is that Pokemon even after all this time is very popular and people are still finding different ways to program and play this game. It also shows that you don't have to create a new advanced system or another pacemaker to be successful in computers.
