Race and Sport - 0 views

Growing up I was very competitive in sports, and heard a lot of negative comments about black athletes. I think that they deserve the same amount of respect as any other athlete. Many black athletes had to overcome more obstacles than other athletes!

Racism - 3 views

  •
    This is just wrong.
  •
Speaks to the non-neutrality of search algorithms. Since they are based on frequent search phrases, popularity of clicks, and other features, they often reflect societal norms and ideas about all sorts of aspects of life, including race.
  •
I agree Baylee! This completely shocked me!

Mitt Romney, white vote: Parsing the narrow, tribal appeal of the Republican nominee. -... - 0 views

  •
We often think of voting demographics in terms of "minorities," which makes groups of "white voters" an invisible norm. This article asks the question of why white people are proportionally voting for Romney.

Disney defends new Hispanic-influenced princess - 1 views

Oops, Disney does it again...Check this out. This princess looks like many of the other "white" princesses Disney has produced. Note the skin color and blue eyes. I can see why there has been backlash by the Hispanic community.

A comic that explores how people in our society often react differently to young white women and young black women

I work down by Madison where its pretty diverse at a grocery store and I see this happen all the time when consumers come through my line vs. coming through a fellow Latina or African American or Asian cashiers line. The conversations that customers have with cashiers of different race are suprizingly different and can be quite offensive.

Judge Rules Trayvon Martin's School Records and Social Media Can Be Used by Zimmerman's... - 0 views

This is a pretty interesting decision. Why what Martin's reacords were prior to the incident were seems irrelevant. Grades, who he was on the phone with, who he talked to? Maybe this establishes prior creditbility? Situated ethos? Who thinks this is a viable defense for Zimmerman?

  •
This is a short article that's interesting because it shows how people's opinions differ on the idea of racism. There are many people that believe racism doesn't exist while others believe that it is still a big deal.
  •
What world is Ann Coulter living in to say "real" racism doesn't exist any more?

"Hang in There Obama" Sign w/ Noose: Man says not offensive - 0 views

  •
This is posted here in Wisconsin and was a lead story on last night's local news. Is this hate speech? See picture of the sign above. The man says he supports the President and it is a showing of support. Is he simply unaware of the connotations of putting a noose on a sign for a black man? For any person? Or is he lying? See if you can follow the story. Will he have to take it down or is it protected by the First Amendment. Should it be classified as Hate Speech?

White Students in Blackface Reenact Chris Brown-Rihanna Fight - COLORLINES - 1 views

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/02/ghettothemed-compton-cookout-party-raises-ire-at-uc-san-diego.html This reminds me of when a UCLS frat held a "Ghetto/Crack" cookout Party during Black History month. It was hugely insensitve and racially demeaning. They thought it was funny. Stereotypes were the joke of the party. You don't see people of color holding parties mocking the way white people live. The site a posted is just one story about this. And this is but one instance of what is a disturbing trend.
