Some of the authors we read this semester drew from work by Norbert Wiener, the founder of cybernetics. Although rhetorical studies was not Wiener's field, his writing has had a profound affect on modern technological language.
As Clay Shirky states: "human nature has turned out to be fairly context sensitive...enough people's behavior becomes antisocial enoughto wreck things for everyone." Programs like this one will not work unless people are motivated to make it succeed.
Here is a little update on China's censorship after social media became a more common tool for getting information out as Shirky talks about in the last part of the book.
Something very interesting about this 'report' is that I cannot get to the actual report. Makes me wonder. Each link I find to the report gives me a problem loading. I would really like to see what this report says!
