The overcoat is the element of satire in the story "The Overcoat" because he is criticizing people being so materialistic. He shows us how people want to be viewed a certain way and think how they are viewed is the most important thing. Also Gogol wants to show how corrupt the Russian society is by the people being judged so much on their appearance. The ghost haunts St. Petersburg because he is upset about what happened to him and he wants a way to release his pain by causing others pain.

In ZeFrank's video "The Teenage Brain" he expresses how young adults don't always make the smartest choices and can't control some of them because the way the brain is still developing. This is in relation with "Emotional Intelligence 2.0" because in the book it tries to help you become more aware of yourself so you can be more aware of others. There is conflict between the two though because young adults brains aren't done developing which creates it very hard to do have the thought process of what EQ is teaching us. If a teenager reads "Emotional Intelligence 2.0" it will help with there maturity level a lot because of how it teaches you to have better reactions to things but like I said before sometimes the teenage brain doesn't allow some of the things they do before they process them.

My favorite piece of work this was "Of Mice and Men" because it is such an iconic American piece of literature. It demonstrates a lot of themes that are relevant to many peoples lives and is easy to connect with.

The most meaningful assignment, I think was the first 5 paragraph essay because we worked a lot on it and really helped my writing and how to format a good paper.

Poetry out loud provided me with learning a lot more just about the poetry culture and how to present a poem and body language to put in while speaking to express how you view what your saying.

The 5 paragraph essay provided me with how to write a well rounded 5 paragraph essay with everything from correct formatting to ways to phrase certain sentences to have them flow. It was the most beneficial part of class I had this year.

I become a problem solver with having to learn how to deal with class and having a lot of distractions since I was in Period 6. Just learning how to put my off track attitude in the dumpster and creating an on track attitude.

The big theme from the 2013-2014 English 11 class is that of the transition from being a child to real adulthood. This theme may not be as evident to others as it was for me. I saw this theme a lot in the story "Of Mice and Men" Lenny was more of the child figure and George was the adult. I think this theme is presented to us because we are in that stage in life from transitioning from childhood to adulthood. I also see a theme of being stuck in a situation you don't like and having to deal with it and take out everything possible from it. For example in "No Exit" the characters were stuck in the situation they were in and had to move on with it, that can relate to a lot of students at Hyde with not necessarily wanting to be here but making the best of what they have. Lastly the theme that your not born with emotional intelligence and it is something gained along, it is expressed well in the "EQ" book along with Ze Franks "The Teen Brain". So with the school year rapping up we have covered a wide variety of themes in English 11 class but these themes are the ones that stick out most evidently to me.

I think Sammy's decision is a very impulsive decision he wasn't thinking of the future as much as he was thinking of the moment at that time. He was being very immature by making this decision and should've thought it through more. Sammy didn't see himself doing anything positive because he couldn't get a couple of girls.

The first crush I ever had was in the 2nd grade, when I started to think this girl named Mary was cute. She had just moved to my elementary school from another school in the district. We would always play during recess together and after a few months of that I went in for the kiss and ended up kissing her. It's funny because we still have stayed in touch tell this day and we both just laugh thinking about elementary school because of the embarrassing things that happened at that school.
