Kind of interesting to see where social media could be going

The National Labor Relations Board says workers have a right to discuss work conditions freely, whether the discussion takes place at the office or on social networking sites. They have ordered the rehiring of employees fired for their posts on social media.

If you wish to stay atop the most recent additions to the world of social media, here is a list of many I've never heard of before. It's a good start!

By applying machine learning and natural language understanding techniques the health of Twitter users and people in their area can be determined with high accuracy by plotting geo-tagged tweets on a map. I posted this article because it makes me wonder how else we can use social networking site's public data to predict information beneficial of everyone--not just site users.

Amanda, this was a great article! I never thought about even trying to map something like this! It reminds me of when the Packers lose, and my Facebook explodes; I'd like to see how those status updates change the further away you get from Green Bay, then Wisconsin, etc.

Okay, this article is from October 2011, however, I still think it brings up important questions about freedom of speech/expression on social networking sites.

This article is interesting because it shows how Social Media is being used within a traditional religion. The article talks about a site, "Pope Alarm", where you can sign up to be promptly notified when the smoke turns white over the Vatican, signaling the selection of a new pope. I haven't watched this yet, but it could be useful if you're interested in privacy and networked selves

While I have not double checked all of the facts behind what this list claims, the information surprised me and helped me with a research idea. I hope this helps someone else if they're looking at social media and marketing!
