How To Network Better on LinkedIn - Business Exchange - 0 views

  •
I thought I would post this because we found out in class that a majority of us to not have a LinkedIn. Well, I decided to get one because I am graduating, and I'm hoping that it will help me with my job search. I found that I really don't know a lot of people on LinkedIn. Because of this, I have a hard time understanding what acceptable LinkedIn activity is like and how to connect to people that I don't know. I want my LinkedIn to be more than just the profile that I created. This is where I think this article comes in handy.

How Twitter can tell you when you are going to get sick - 1 views

By applying machine learning and natural language understanding techniques the health of Twitter users and people in their area can be determined with high accuracy by plotting geo-tagged tweets on a map. I posted this article because it makes me wonder how else we can use social networking site's public data to predict information beneficial of everyone--not just site users.

Amanda, this was a great article! I never thought about even trying to map something like this! It reminds me of when the Packers lose, and my Facebook explodes; I'd like to see how those status updates change the further away you get from Green Bay, then Wisconsin, etc.

Twitter, Facebook, and social activism : The New Yorker - 0 views

  •
An article addressing the ways protesting was done in the past (sit-ins, press involvement, etc) and how it has changed with social media (Twitter, ect). Essentially, Malcolm Gladwell argues that activism through social media does not have the strength that social change requires because the strategies are built around people who are weakly tied to others through social networks
  •
I liked this article because in the past people would protest with signs and today we can use social media and it gets a lot more people involoved. I think this is a postive side to social media.
