Robot news and Robotics Info - 0 views

  •
Robots is an interesting topic and as young people in general we need to be concerned and aware of what is going on. As tech guys we need to really be able to know what is going on and be able to possibly program one of these things or at the very least be able to use it once it has come out. This site has all the latest info about robots. It has videos and articles all combined into one. This website is like a Wired or a Slashdot page except it is designed solely for the robotic community.

Early reports about the Internet - Tom Brokaw - 1 views

  •
This is an old video from the 1990's about the Internet. With the Internet just being established at the time, I found it very funny how Tom Brokaw made this new phenomena sound like it would never come true. The things it talks about are outdated for our times, but the ideas claimed to be in the future actually came true. At the time it seemed like a bold claim to say that every store would be at the click of a button on the Internet, but it definitely wasn't. It makes me wonder how our new inventions will potentially evolve in the future.

NASA find money on the moon - 1 views

  •
This article was a report from NASA that water was found on the moon. Apparently they found up to 2 gallons in the shadowed regions of the moon. NASA crashed a satellite into the moon in hopes of finding life or anything new that is normally not found in the normal surface of the moon. The $79 million project was a success adn will be researched much more in the future. I chose this article because it seemed like a large impact into what we think the solar system is like. First we excluded Pluto as a planet and now we are discovering water on the moon, what else will happen in the future?

Pingtest.net - The Global Broadband Quality Test - 2 views

  •
You're all probably familiar with speedtest, well their newest website is called pingtest. It has a pretty similar interface and if you've ever used speedtest it shouldn't be to hard to figure out. It can be used to calculate packet loss, ping, and jitter. After your test is complete it gives you a grade, describing the quality of your connection. I think its pretty cool, and I'm glad that they've stayed with the same great interface. Just another cool website to keep in mind!

Urinal protocol vulnerability - 5 views

shared by Steve H on 12 Nov 09 - Cached

This is not really related, but I thought it was hilarious and someone had to have taken a lot of time to think of it. Almost all guys follow this so called "Urinal protocol," whether its ever brought up or not, it's just known to be proper bathroom etiquette. Proper protocol states that you must leave 1 open stall in between each occupied stall. The article shows visual diagrams of how the process works, and even shows a mathematical calculation of how it can be most efficient. Based on the calculation, if a bathroom has either 3,5,9,17,33...number of stalls, it will be able to occupy the most people at a given time, avoiding the "awkwardness" state.

Purdue University Adds Twitter and Facebook to Class Participation - 1 views

We all hate twitter, we all use Facebook/Myspace, and we all text... so what if we put all of them in one? Then we come up with Purdue's Hotseat program. I'm surprised Mr. Soderlund didn't beg to be one of the test pilots for this new program. ;-)

Droid vs iPhone: The Comparison Chart [PIC] - 2 views

  •
If you take a look at this chart, you can see some of the information that I used to put my research paper together. Not only does it show the information between the two phones that my paper covers, the iPhone and the Droid, it also compares them to two other smart phones. Not only is this chart easy to read, but it is also very informative. In the end, I did use this chart in my paper, and did give credit to the site for using it. I think that some people may be surprised as to see how the Droid really does compare to the iPhone when placed side by side. This chart does really help someone who is looking at buying one of the two phones in making a smart decision for themselves.

It seems like one of the big deals with technology anymore is how energy efficient it is. This is why I chose to bookmark this site. This site fills you in on all of the current news about green technology's. This can be useful to anyone because anything that uses electricity can be made to be more energy efficient. This also includes computers which we all love so dearly.

Modern Warfare 2 Sales Projections Through The Roof - 2 views

This is a follow up article on my previous diigo post. This one shows how well the game actually did. For us computer geeks this is a big deal. This game is predicted to become the most successful game to ever hit the market. If we can learn something from this we can be successful too. The reason i think that they sold 7 million copies world-wide is because of the previous game CoD4. Not to mention that they had game stop hosting release parties and that there was a huge party in New York for its release. This could be the biggest game of the century, lets make sure you get in on it.

The lost art of reading -- latimes.com - 0 views

I don't know what this article is about because I didn't read it. Just kidding I did. It is about how society has lost interest in reading books and novels and became interested in blogs and tweets. Because the internet has brought us those things we seem to have trouble focusing on a novel.

If I Had $35,000 In My Left Pocket, I Would Get Bill Gates to Guide Me Around His Home - 0 views

  •
Want to see how real men live? A simple charity auction done by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gates raised an amazing 35,000 dollars! Bill Gates for the last two years has offered a guided tour of his Lake Washington property. This year, even in recession, was still a lot, 8,600 dollars. What is this mystique, that can make people just throw away 35,000 dollars of a visit of one person's home, and if Bill Gates can make this amount of money, then wouldn't you think Hollywood celebrities would also join the charity cause and do the same? To be honest if I made 100,000 a year, I would probably be willing to give out near 5,000, one for charity, and two I mean… it's Bill $#@%ing Gates. What nerdy, geeky, or just sane person wouldn't want to go meet the man. When you visit the gizmodo link I have provided you can also watch a very detailed 3d video showing off some of the sweet tricks to his Washington home. I would highly encourage you to read the article and wonder to yourself, why haven't other people thought of this too?

Nov. 10, 1983: Computer 'Virus' Is Born | This Day In Tech | Wired.com - 0 views

  •
Computer Viruses are the bane of every computer user (especially Windows users) and this article explains the origin of the computer virus. A graduate student named Fred Cohen was the first person to do an academic proof of concept for computer virus demonstrating how they could work on a UNIX machine. However he was not the first person to write a computer virus he just coined the term. The first virus was written by a 15 year old and ran on an Apple II (which is incredibly ironic)

'Mdoern Warfare 2 a Fiery hit' - 0 views

You could only guess it would be better with how much hype it received. Modern Warfare has blown peoples minds. Many people thought Modern Warfare 1 could not be topped but just has. Modern Warfare 2 covers it all when it comes to customization. There are double, if not triple the amount of guns and perks available in single and multiplayer, as well as many more attachments including thermal scopes, a heartbeat sensor, and a shotgun attachment for your assault rifle. I don't think there is anything you can say bad about this game because as usual, Infinity Ward covered all the bases. if this game doesn't get Game of the Year I will be genuinely surprised.

Doctor-On Call? Cell-Phone Cameras Can Diagnose Disease - 0 views

  •
It seems like everything in the medical field is trying to go towards technology that requires less human interaction. Researchers at the University of California at Berkeley are working with a product called "CellScope." CellScope is a microscope that attaches to a camera-equipped cell phone and produces two kinds of imaging, called brightfield and fluorescence microscopy. This device can take images of disease samples and transmit them to medical labs throughout the world. Their goal is to use mobile communications networks as a cost-effective way for medical staff to screen hematologic and infectious diseases in parts of the world that lack access to advanced microscopic equipment. This is just another example of how technology is taking over the medical field. It seems like doctors are required to do less and less work as time goes on and technology becomes more advanced. This was very interesting to me because last week my uncle was emailing me about this. My uncle is a surgeon in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was telling me how he does still perform surgeries, but he can tell that in the future he won't be performing as many. It is obvious the medical industry relies on technology to assist them, and they will only rely on them more in the future.

5 Years of Firefox - 1 views

I know I'm a little late, but Firefox's birthday didn't occur on a diigo class day. But anyways, this is a little article that LifeHacker did about Firefox and its history. It starts at Netscape, moves to Mozilla, goes to Firefox (and all of its versions), and ends with today! It also has a nifty and well done video promoting Firefox. Anyways, I think Firefox's birthday is worth celebrating. Its such a great browser and it really promotes the spirit of the internet; freedom, sharing, connecting for a greater good. Its addons are a perfect example. There is a great creative community that displays a wide variety of needs and wants. It creates a customizable browsing experience for everyone, which is one of the best parts of Firefox and why its truly worth celebrating.

Obesity and Overweight for Professionals: Data and Statistics: U.S. Obesity Trends | DN... - 0 views

I chose to bookmark this site because of recent class discussions about fast food and its negative effects on the United States. This article does a great job illustrating just how fat America is. It includes a picture that shows how much obesity has increased in the United States over the years. It also has a table that shows the percentage of people in each state that are obese. Last year 26.3% of people in Indiana alone were obese. This is insane to think about! More than a quarter of the people in this state have problems with their weight. I wonder if this is a direct result of all the fast food restaurants we have here in America.

Hills Like White Elephants - 2 views

I chose to share this link after reading an article that our class was assigned as homework. The article, Ernest Hemingway's Top 5 Tips for Writing Well ( found at http://www.copyblogger.com/ernest-hemingway-top-5-tips-for-writing-well/ ), quotes an extremely short story by Hemingway that I thought might confuse most of our class. This story is simply, "For sale: baby shoes, never used." This new link introduces another of Hemingway's short stories with a similar theme and a lot more detail. I hope that by linking this story I'll be able to give the class a little bit on insight on Hemingway, Hemingway's great writing style, and the previous short-short-story. However, because Hemingway is the author your going to have to read into what the characters are talking about to truly discern the emotional depth of the conversation. Consider this a further introduction to Ernest Hemingway if you haven't read any of his work already, I hope you enjoy.

SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides - 0 views

  •
As far as literature review sites go SparkNotes is one of the best. When placed in the hands of the lazy, this website, and the convenience it brings, can lead to a quick and painful academic downfall. However, if used merely as a study resource SparkNotes can substantially increase a students grades. For example, You've just finished reading The Lord of the Flies and you've been assigned an essay on symbolism due next class. You don't particularly remember any symbols from your reading, so you check spark notes which gives you a few examples and leads you in the right direction. Add a little of your own synthesis and some specific incidents that support your statements and your essay will be done before you know it! This also works with hard to follow Shakespearean plots and deep character development. Along with being able to help you learn, SparkNotes can also help you study and remember old books that you've read just in time for your final. Or it can help you study for your SATs. In fact, SparkNotes has a lot of sections designed to help high School and College students succeed. SparkNotes is a great tool as long as you remember to do the real work yourself!
