The epa is asking supermarkets to use generaters to significantly cut down on the food waste that they put out each day and month. The epa put a Hierarchy up to show how this goes, Source Reduction, Feed Hungry People, Feed Animals, Industrial uses, Composting, incineration of landfill.

the fifth annual survey polled almost 1100 americans and found out that consumers also felt guilty about leaving the lights on when leaving a room and wasting water. But no one really thinks about wasting rations or food. Food costs more than electric does each month and no one really pays attention to it.

In this article it's saying that 20 pounds of food is wasted each month for each of the 311 million americans. That amounts to $1,350 to $2,275 a month.  That's what most people make in a month. Also throwing away cereal that isn't all the way gone, just to clear or make room in your pantry.

By generating food waste has significant economic as well as environmental consequences. Parts of your budget goes to buying food, but yet we waste it with out even thinking anything of it. If i was to give someone 20 dollars and then say throw it away they would look at me like i'm crazy. But this is what we are doing!

McDonalds is opening up a vegetarian McDonalds due to the fact that these people in India can not eat meat because of their religion.  This is the first of it's kind in the franchise. The store will serve the vegetarian items currently sold in indian restaurants and the chain will likely develop some new items as well.

40 percent of the food being thrown away in the US equals up to 165 billion dollars.  That's a lot of money, if we saved a little more maybe we could help get our selves out of a recession.

The ESTS, Environmental Science & Technology estimates that 96 billions of food that we throw out equals 185 million barrels of oil. The deepwater horizon spewed an estimated 4.9 million barrels of oild into the ocean during a drilling accident. Now that's a lot of food being thrown away.

Food waste is any substance raw or cooked food. Anything that is discarded and thrown away.

Food waste in the United States is 40 percent of food. A study from the Natural Resources Defense Council did a study on this and said that the average american family throws out $2000.00 worth of food a year.

Grocery stores are throwing out food that is still good, none of it is rotten of bad. But because the expiration date is nearing they throw it out.
