Rabbi Shmuley Boteach: What If Government Recognized Only Civil Unions and Left Marriag... - 0 views

  •
Marriage serves two different purposes in religion and government. Same-sex couples wish for the same treatment as married couples under the eyes of the law. Society should stop the argument over who can marry and get back to more important issues, such as addressing divorce rates.

Marriage, as we know it today, was not always about finding true love. Instead, it was used for socioeconomic power and to build family rapport. It's hard to imagine that prior to 1967, it was illegal for a man and a woman of different races to get married.

Europes Privacy Laws and How It Will Impact U.S. Companies - 0 views

  •
How the European Union (EU) decides to move forward with their online privacy laws in regard to personal information, will greatly impact how the U.S. proceeds with theirs. The "economic partnership" between the two nations are so heavily intertwined, that legislations across seas will impact U.S. companies. The EU has implemented legislations protecting the rights of online customers. Meanwhile, in the U.S., companies have been reluctant to work with the government in providing U.S. online customers the same protection, because the majority of their profits stem from online advertising. These advertisements work so well because companies have been able to track consumer activities and in turn cater to them according to their habits. Implement government regulations that prevent big companies from doing that and their profits will plummet.

Online Privacy: Can the U.S. Get Its Act Together? - 0 views

  •
Can the U.S. continue without privacy laws in place for its citizens? It basically boils down to if the big industries "can agree on adequate policies that balance privacy and profits." The people are asking for basic privacy laws for the internet, but that would mean a tight leash on big company data collecting and everything else implied.

Sister Margaret Farley Denounced by Vatican - 0 views

  •
Sister Margaret Farley has written a book on love, exploring different sexualities among people. She moves away from a "that's the way it has been always been taught" point of view to a progressive and accepting one that adapts to current knowledge, science and interpretation of theology. This is unlike any other perspective because it comes from the house of the strongest opponent to "deviant" sexual behaviors.

New York Allows Same-Sex Marriage, Becoming Largest State to Pass Law - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • I apologize for those who feel offended,” Mr. Grisanti said, adding, “I cannot deny a person, a human being, a taxpayer, a worker, the people of my district and across this state, the State of New York, and those people who make this the great state that it is the same rights that I have with my wife.

This statement by Mr. Grisanti, who once opposed same sex marriage, brings forth very valid points; other than their sexual preferences - same sex couples live their lives and abide by the same laws that heterosexual couples do. Why then should gay couples be seen as different under the eyes of the law?

Ranchers Alarmed by Killing Near Border - 0 views

  • Robert N. Krentz Jr., 58, the scion of one of the best-known and oldest ranching families here in southeast Arizona, was found shot to death March 27 on his vast, remote ranch north of here after radioing to his brother that he was aiding someone he believed to be an illegal immigrant. Mr. Krentz went missing shortly after that call, and the police found his body several hours later in his all-terrain vehicle, his guns untouched in the back, his dog shot and critically wounded. Fresh footprints led from the scene to the Mexican border 20 miles away. Given Mr. Krentz’s radio transmission, the footprints and heavy drug and illegal immigrant trafficking in that area, investigators are working on the assumption that he encountered a smuggler, possibly heading back to Mexico.

This NY Times article looks into the murder of Robert Krentz, the Arizona farmer, who was shot to death in Cochise County. Clues led to the possibility that it may have been an illegal alien who shot and killed Mr. Krentz. This event occurred during the heated debate as to whether Arizona's new immigration law, requiring documentation of legal status in the United States, should go into effect.

That notion paints a scary picture and it comes down to where law enforcement offciers will draw the line.

Summary of New Health Reform Law - 0 views

  •
This article is very staightforward. It provides the nitty gritty details of the new healthcare law in manageable chunks. Not only does this article summarize the law, it also plugs in numerical values to paint a picture of what PPACA is intended to do and how it affects the employee, employer (small and large), and government.

Supreme Court Health Care Challenge: What You Need to Know - 2 views

  •
We have all heard about "Obamacare". Here's a look at what the arguments are all about. Is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act unconstitutional or lawful? Can the government force every legal citizen to buy insurance? Or does that over-step the rights of its very citizens? It seems, the answer lies in interpretation.
