The transition of newly graduated nurse practitioners (NPs) into practice can be challenging for the employer and the NPs. A new-graduate residency model for NPs along with evaluative criteria is presented from a primary care setting. Residency models are of benefit for new-graduate NPs to ease the transition to practice and promote patient care quality, and nurse retention, and satisfaction.

There is limited information available regarding the transition from registered nurse (RN) to family nurse practitioner (FNP). Several authors described this transition as taking place in 4 stages, and others described it as a 2-phase process.

This article examines the documented positive impact of full practice legislation on patient outcomes. Potentially avoidable hospitalizations, readmission rates after inpatient rehabilitation, and nursing home resident hospitalizations were explored. States with full practice of nurse practitioners have lower hospitalization rates in all examined groups and improved health outcomes in their communities.

Hi All- This report provides a lot of great information about the role of the APRN in providing primary care in Georgia with citations to a lot of the information we have learned about in classes.

An interesting article that opines about the DNP. Here's a fairly provocative quote: "When viewed together, doctorally prepared nurses do not spend the majority of their time in direct patient care, but rather in research (11%), education (32%), and administration (30%). With these demanding roles, they cannot be expected to maintain expert levels of clinical competence required for teaching APN students. While research and practice are critical components of nursing, each requires a different skill set and education."

This is an interesting article that conducted a lit review to see how expanding the scope of practice for APRNs would affect health care delivery and costs in Ohio. Although it is specific to Ohio, the lit review they did highlights many benefits to full practice authority that could be generalized to any state.

This article is very relevant to our discussion today in lecture. It speaks to the consensus model, our primary certification after graduation, and then speciality certification. Additionally the articles outlines what is required to work in the ED. A concise and easy to follow article.

This timeline is great as it shows monumental dates in history not only related to midwifery, but also to social justice, economic changes, political changes, etc. in our country. I think its important to relate what is going on in our profession to what is happening in the country/city/world in which we work. It creates some perspective on why things happen when they do.
