This is a brief summary of the history of midwifery and beginnings of nurse-midwifery in the United States.Though the statistics are a bit dated, the article also has some recent data on the positive impact of the recent resurgence of midwifery practice since it began declining in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It also discusses the profession of nurse-midwifery's close ties with public health and under served communities.

This is an interesting article with many varied references, discussing the history of midwifery throughout the world and since the dawn of human civilization. The authors state their interest in identifying the "macro" and "micro" socio-cultural factors that have shaped the development of the midwifery profession, focusing on the concept of "care" and on midwifery as the world's first holistic profession.

This is what pops up first when you google "the history of pediatric nurse practitioners" -- the authors discuss the origin of the profession.

This article does a great job of summarizing the history of geriatric NPs role in care, the development education for geriatric NPs beginning with the first program in 1966 and the unmet demand for nurses trained in geriatrics.

Hello Everyone, Module 3 instruction asked us to explore articles about our transition from student to APRN. As we discussed in class and from guest panel, I realized that mentorship is really important. While I was looking through emory DiscoverE about mentorship, I came across this article that highlights how important it is to clarify the term "mentorship" when I am talking to my potential employer because it can mean different for the employer.
