This article shows how individuality in the APRN roles are critical to good patient care

Briefly describes how GNP is no longer continued since 2014, and that GNP can only be renewed by those who already obtained the GNP. AGNP combines both adults and geriatric population. This is ironic because ANCC still recognizes that there are needs for providers who specializes in our geriatric population just like how pediatrics, but they discontinued GNP.

This article talks about the evolving role of the PNP over recent history. It breaks down the role based on work activities, the top being medication prescription, reporting social concerns such as abuse, neglect and exploitation, and guidance on immunizations. Knowing the key components of the practice of a PNP will help drive competencies in education and understanding the role better.

While this article is not specific to the FNP specialty, I find it interesting because it discusses the evolving global role of APRNs.

This article provides a brief history of the APRN role and the advancement from a CRNA, to midwives, then to FNPs. The focus is the family nurse practitioner role. The author shows the connection with Erik Ericsson's stages of development and provides examples of how the role of the NP progressed through those stages. Examples are also provided from a world development perspective, as each country has also had to move through the same phases of development before moving on to the next. The author concludes that we (the U.S.) are still in the final stage of development (Integrity-older adult).
