The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. This includes the APRN Consensus movement. This website has multitudes of information related to APRN practice; as we get closer to the F2F classes in October, this will become a more valuabel resource.

An interesting article that opines about the DNP. Here's a fairly provocative quote: "When viewed together, doctorally prepared nurses do not spend the majority of their time in direct patient care, but rather in research (11%), education (32%), and administration (30%). With these demanding roles, they cannot be expected to maintain expert levels of clinical competence required for teaching APN students. While research and practice are critical components of nursing, each requires a different skill set and education."

Approximately 70 to 80% of healthcare errors are due to poor team communication and understanding. High-risk environments such as the trauma setting (which covers a broad spectrum of departments in acute services) are where the majority of these errors occur. Despite the emphasis on interprofessional collaborative practice and patient safety, interprofessional teamworking in the trauma setting has received little attention.

With the limited research that has been done in the area it is difficult to know exactly how to support students in their transition to be a provider, but this is a foundation which can be built upon.

An interesting article about an APRN fellowship. It is a yearlong program that has classroom sessions, simulations, and peer-to-peer support networks. The program is aimed at facilitating the APRN transition and reducing burnout. It seems to have some good results!
