On this is going to be a game changer for me! Not exactly social media, but ... Ty clipped from the Diigo blog, which led me there, and then I found this entry. I can import my highlighted passages from Kindle reading to Diigo? SOLD! I've felt limited by kindle reading/highlighting because then my notes are still stuck on the kindle. But with this integration ... oh my, the possibilities!

I liked reading the comments. I didn't notice changes, so presumably they didn't remove anything that I use! They said they would remove a discover feature (helping newcomers search for content/groups?). That's OK with me. Interesting in the comments was some discussion of individual workflows with Diigo and other tools (Pocket, IFTTT, InoReader, OneTab).

So, my company pays for it, but Storyline 360 is amazing, and the other offerings that come with your purchase of Articulate 360 are pretty neat. I'm still playing with quizmaker360, and Rise is amazing- though less customizable than Storyline.

This is fascinating. I've always found the reports on what parts of the country search for certain terms more to be fascinating. Wonder if we will get to a point where this kind of data will actually be a factor in policy-making?

Two men fell off a cliff Wednesday in San Diego's North County while playing "Pokemon Go," the Encinitas Fire Department confirmed. San Diego Lifeguards reported that someone had fallen off a cliff at E Street around 1:12 p.m. When the Encinitas Fire Department arrived, they found a man around 80 to 90 feet down the cliff, on the beach. Be aware of the surroundings while playing this game! Safety first!

I just wish I could play it. It is only available in one remote city in South Korea due to antiquated laws dating back to the Korean war.

As an avid pokemon fan I definitely tried the game out. I wasn't super impressed by it. I think most of the mobile phone apps are too simple for me to enjoy playing regularly. I will say that people getting hurt while engaging with them seems to be on the rise. Maybe there should be some sort of a warning when these games boot up. Something along the lines of "PLEASE LOOK WHERE YOU ARE GOING" might be helpful. lol.

Coincidentally, some library colleagues and I are trying to implement this into FSU. We hope to find a department interested in using all OER textbooks. It seems like a challenge, but we are confident that if one school will jump on board, students will encourage others to follow their example!

Good review of why Open Educational Resources (OER) should be considered over traditional textbooks

Reddit is quite popular, though many people don't connect with it. It has a devoted user base that is often less friendly to outsiders. I think this is part of the appeal for people that do use it. Here is something that I think is accessible for others. The AMA's (Ask me Anything) can be really interesting. Matt Damon has some really interesting answers that go beyond stand surface-level answers. The comments based on his answers are part of the fun of reading it. For anyone who checked out Reddit and didn't care for it, I think this a good for giving a taste of what reddit can be.

I was always curious about how Snapchat's filters are able to identify human faces so well. This video gives a simple explanation of how it works.

Time and technology

Pinterest usage statistics. I knew this before using it, so I was a little hesitant. It didn't immediately "click" with me. After trying it out again, I have found it much more interesting. I added my wife as an editor to the board and it has proved to be a good way to share information about a topic of mutual interest.

I totally believe it! Many women have alternative lives on Pinterest. It's a world many of us probably wished we lived. LOL!

I have a friend who works in advertising. He uses Pinterest when doing research for ad campaigns. I think this is a good example of someone "working in a visual medium" as Dr. Dennen suggested.

"Augmented reality, which is better than reality" - made me laugh! This was an interesting take on Pokemon Go, and I appreciate that he said that we as educators shouldn't focus on the technology of it, but what it unlocks in the person using it. Thanks for sharing!

This quote stuck out to me "Education doesn't happen to students, but inside them. I can't remember where I heard that, but it's true." So VERY true! It's an internal process. Very cool article.

This article gives a good overview of other literature and studies on the topic of web 2.0 in the workplace, particularly relating to learning in the workplace. They've taken that research and created a theoretical model that can be used to study individual, social and organisational effects on web 2.0-based learning in the workplace.
