A fantastic site for teachers and educators. There are several tools that are listed by category including presentation tools, mobile tools, video tools, community tools, and related tools.

The site is fantastic. So many good tools to use, all in one place. This is worth checking out. While I am not a teacher, I think the way its organized and the tools it offers can be used in our field of ISD. Thanks once again for digging up some good stuff. :)

This blog post introduces tools for social media analytics (particularly Twitter). Some of them may support cross platform analysis (not just Twitter). Have you played with any of them before? I've explored TAGS and Socioviz just a little bit.

Alyn, I also have a written list on several scratch pieces of paper that are in various places around my computers. Now, everything that I need to know about web 2.0 tools and links are in one place. I am overwhelmed with the amount of resources that were listed. I have only heard of about 1/2 of what is posted on this site.

I'm with both of you. I started a list on my computer. As I discover a site from the class, or someone's blog, I would add it. This list is great, but I'm planning on still organzing the list I've come up with. That is if I ever get around to it. I'm hoping that will be a quicker reference, but we'll see if I ever get to it :)

Not Web 2.0, but a cool tool to have when you want to design presentations. I have used this numerous times when I want to match a color on a website (e.g. FSU) and put the same color in my presentation. No, its just a handy tool that I think would help all of us designers. For years I used to struggle trying to guess what color comes closet to FSU's Garnet and Gold. Then all of a sudden, one day earlier this year, I googled "how to detect a color" and bingo, this came up. Been using it ever since. Glad you like it.

Hi Alyn, I frequently have to develop artwork, etc and match colors. It is a challenge to get the right colors from Microsoft program colors to match Adobe program color pallets without wasting a lot of time. The results when printing can be drastically different. So this tool looked very appealing to me and I attempted to download. However, my McAfee automatically removed the download with a message that it contained a Trojan virus. Have you had any problems?

I'm intrigued by this tool and would like to play with it.

The idea of this tool seems really nifty. I would love to use the toxicity analyzer on Reddit to support my previous claims that there is a lot of "trolling" on that site.

According to Alexa (2015), Youtube is the third most visited website in the world (as cited by Moghavvemi, Sulaiman, Jaafar, & Kasem, 2018). The study explored students' usage and their perceptions of Youtube's effectiveness as an academic learning tool. Out of 312 respondents 71% stated they used Youtube for academic learning purposes (Moghavvemi, Sulaiman, Jaafar, & Kasem, 2018). According to Moghavvemi et al. (2018), 76% of respondents stated they used Youtube to learn how to solve problems, 77% used it to answer questions, and 83% used it to watch videos that were suggested by friends. In addition to this, Moghavvemi et al. (2018), reported 70.5% of respondents believed they learned more from watching Youtube than reading a book. Thus, the findings supported previous studies which found using videos to teach was an effective tool to enhance academic performance (Moghavvemi, Sulaiman, Jaafar, & Kasem, 2018). Tess (2013) provides a great review of the literature on the role of social media in the higher education context. Tess (2013) suggests that as instructors look for ways to incorporate technology to mediate and enhance their instructions as well as promote active learning among students, they increasingly turn to different social media tools. The author argues that the current literature on the integration of social media in higher education are limited to self-reported data and content analyses. Therefore, he provides a summary of literature on the role of social media in the higher education classroom as well as discusses their limitations. Various studies (cited below) explored the role of social media and SNSs in different contexts of education -teaching learning process. These studies have demonstrated interesting and useful results. Tess (2013), in addition to keyword-specific searches, used a "snowball" method for finding the articles from the relevant articles cited in the literature reviewed. To narrow the range of the review, he chooses articles on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, blog and LinkedIn. Tess (2013) provides a brief definition of each of these five SNSs. He also looks at the social impact of these popular SNS tools. The author looks at the factors motivating the educators to use social media in higher education classrooms, such as: the changing nature of the student, the changing knowledge consumption relationship, and the de-emphasis of institutionally provided learning and emergence of "user-driven" education (Selwyn, 2010). The author provides platform-specific affordances and drawbacks in terms of their application in the higher education space. This tool was created based on research that identified barriers higher ed instructors faced when incorporating social media into their classrooms. After completed some questions, the tool uses algorithms based on pedagogical principles to suggest tools, strategies and guidelines for incorporating social media in higher ed classrooms.

I like the section on "curating vs dumping". In a previous course, we used Zotero to store our sources for annotated bibliographies and for classmates to have access to. I did not fully utilize this resources by tagging, sorting, etc. In this case, I just used this site to 'dump' all of my sources and then didn't do anything else with them.

This is a useful resource! It makes me realize that I subconsciously used a curation tool in one of my courses (one I am a very minor instructor actually). During the session, I was presenting some tips to help healthcare professionals to see how useful mastering English could be for their job (I'm the French classmate, remember. ;-) ). I decided to combine all the resources I provided about the TOEFL test, Visas, universities, and so on, in a shared Padlet everybody could implement. Though I thought the comment feature could be helpful, I relied on colors to categorize the various topics. I think including tags would be super helpful to provide multiple ways to classify resources.

This is a great tool to enhance interaction in the online classroom. It allows the creation of avatars with the addition of voice so you can interact with your students in ways that capture attention, motivate interaction and helps explain concepts to key audiences from varying perspectives.

Wow, I really like this tool, seems like Voki could improve all kinds of classes, especially foreign language or reading classes for students that may get nervous speaking aloud. Is there a tool on the teacher's side though that prints out a report of the scores on the oral tests that the students spoke of? Just curious....thanks. (O:

I found this great site with a "curation" of Web 2.0 Tools for Teaching. I thought it might useful in addition to the tools we're using in the class.

Couldn't reply to Vanessa's Post, created new one....It makes sense that researchers are taking steps to understand the role of the educator when considering Web 2.0 tools. I don't think this is a simple task for an educator to incorporate these tools into their cirriculum. In addition, I think great thought is needed to make sure that the tools are not just being used for the sake of using them but that they add/enhance learning. While the article suggests that the burden has fallen on the teacher to make use of this, I think it would be wise for institutions to develop a support system that works with the educators. After all, the institution provides them with a chalk board, a classroom, an overhead projector, etc. Why not provide them with proper training and course design suggestions using Web 2.0 technology?

This article is long however it gives some great information about using YouTube in the classroom. It is divided up into a few chapters so not all of it needs to be consumed. In short it is a research study about how educators use the web2.0 tool YouTube. It talks about how we can integrate it in the class, features of the site, and how to use the site. It also highlights some of the problems that came up with usage during the study.

Awesome! I love YouTube and I definitely utilize this tool A LOT in my high school English classroom. I enjoy how youtube also has the ability to focus on strictly educational materials. Visuals are so important for students to create concrete connections. Great artice!

YouTube is my favorite video-based network. Videos are intrinsically motivating and engaging. I agree with the point in the article that the videos that are informative, humorous, current, interesting and engaging are most preferred by students, but instructors choose a video based on its instructional value, not simply due to its humorous content. Found a great tool to aggregate social media tools. Flipboard becomes your Social Magazine. Available for iPad, iPhone & Android.

Hangouts let you video chat with up to 9 people, face-to-face-to-face. You can watch YouTube videos, wear pirate hats, or even doodle together.

I did not write the original comment. Google hangouts is a new communication tool that is free. It is like Facetime except that you can have up to 9 people on your call. It is suppose to be better then Skype because there is a screen sharing tool that you can use during the call. I just discovered this last night! I plan on trying it out when my hubby leaves for South Africa in a couple of weeks.

It is better than Skype, great quality and an interactive screen. I love it, and use it a lot to communicate with my family (I wrote a post about that!).

Gliffy looks awesome! Wish I had known about it in the beginning of the summer. I would have used in it my trends and issues class. There's still a couple more weeks of class, so I may get my chance. If not, I'm sure it will come in handy for a future class.
