You, Your Network & Your Digital Legacy: Personal Branding for Teachers - The Know New ... - 0 views

  • The goal of personal branding is not to brag about yourself but rather to become very intentional about the words you choose, the company you keep and the way you represent yourself to your target audience.
    • Cindy Hanks

This blog article points out the importance of "hanging out" with people that will help add value to your reputation. It also emphasized the importance of being intentional about everything we do online. There is also a section in the article which speaks about building your social networking legacy. Great article!
  • When building your personal brand – your digital legacy – you control much of the perception others will have of you. As you approach your behavior and interactions with strategy and intention, others begin to recognize your value and relevancy.

EBSCOhost: Implications of Mixed Reality and Simulation Technologies on Special Educat... - 0 views

  • This article focuses on technological innovations and their potential implications for students and teachers in our schools
  • No longer will we be immersed either in technology (such as a virtual reality world) or only in reality. Rather, we will see the blending of those two worlds, meeting the expectations of Generation M students while advancing education frontiers.
  • we recognize the potential for technology to level the playing field for students with disabilities
    • Cindy Hanks

With the use of technology, some our our special needs students will have the opportunity to shine in areas that they have not been able to shine previously. I believe it is so important to give students opportunities to succeed as much as possible in order to not only meet their academic needs, but also to give them confidence and a feeling of accomplishment. We all need that.

FCAT Explorer - 0 views

  •
I loved using this site to help my students practice skills in reading and math prior to completing science practice. Unfortunately the science test is testing reading comprehension as much as it tests science. If students are great at hands on experiments but cannot associate a paragraph of written material to the hands on activity, then they will not do well on FCAT Science. FCAT Explorer will help with those skills prior to science lessons.

Those who lean to the Right politically probably won't be interested in this article, but it fits the Left's narrative that big business has too much influence on public policy, particularly on education policy ... particularly on educational technology policy.

Testing virtual reality in the classroom - 0 views

  • That ability—created by manipulations of virtual reality—is one of many virtual-teaching applications being developed and tested by the Stanford University cognitive psychologist.
  • Car travel is getting more dangerous and expensive, and university classrooms are often crowded and uncomfortable," he says. "Yet because video conferencing and other types of media fall far short of face-to-face interaction, we still burden ourselves with physical commutes to classrooms."
  • n a range of studies, Bailenson's team is showing that manipulating virtual versions of the teacher and classroom environment can help students pay attention and perform better. In related research, changing the form of avatars—virtual versions of the self—can motivate people to exercise, and even teach them dance steps and tai chi poses.

  • Meanwhile, Bailenson is also applying research showing the persuasive power of direct-eye gaze to teaching in the virtual classroom. Virtual professors blessed by Bailenson with "augmented gaze"—the technology-aided ability to look each student in the eye for much of a lecture—can improve students' attention and keep them alert, he is finding.
