Exploring the layers of social learning - 0 views

  •
Exploring the layers of social learning by Julian Stodd We used to live in two worlds: the workplace, which was a formal and restricted environment, typified by moderated messages and codified behaviours that fitted within defined parameters of 'acceptable', and then the social world, which was unrestricted and expressive, ranging from conversations in the pub to heated debates about politics, religion and which cocktail to order next. These worlds were separate, colliding only at moments of misjudged intra-office relationships and the alcohol-fuelled miscommunication of the office Christmas party. But no more. The world has changed under us and there is no formal and social divide. We inhabit a grey space of 'social', where people answer office emails from the bath and use Facebook in meetings. That photograph of the holiday in Ibiza will haunt you in your next job interview and the post about how much you hate your boss has just gone global thanks to a misjudged retweet. But what does social mean for learning? How can we tune into the levels of engagement that we see, how can we enrich for formal learning experience? How can we add a meaningful social layer around our work?

What will be the future of eLearning for Higher Education? - 0 views

  •
I am preparing a presentation on the future of e-learning for HE education. Any suggestions on best technologies? What do you think will be here in 5 years and has a good pedagogical basis? David Goodman said: What does the future learning technologies look like for the northerm hemisphere vs the southern? West vs East? rich vs poor? A polticial question - does everyone wish that others have an improved learning experience? Education is an economic, job unemployment, citizen compliance, conformance, etc. issue. Having left my soapbox of babble - I would like to see a visual, immersive board that is haptic and responsive to my learning whims. My learning world will change as I touch a topic, reference, picture, sound, etc - that may all be related or not.I would like to become a hologram sitting in a virtual environment listening and seeing Homer with discussions going on with many others who debate him on his philosophy as it pertains to us today. Dreaming is OK with me.

Using Elearning for Technology and Healthcare Education - 0 views

  •
Elearning makes sense economically and logistically It is the cheapest way to get a clear, consistent message to the most people in the least amount of time. For those of us working with clients in IT or healthcare, what better way to educate workers on the use of technology than to use technology to do the job? We've been using elearning to train workers across all industries in some skills, particularly manufacturing line workers in processes or transactional workers in soft skills. But this trend is accelerating and spreading beyond line workers and manufacturing workers on the floor, and now reaches to the upper echelons of the corporate hierarchy. Today, we are using many elearning modalities to educate, inform and transform at all levels of the organization - webinars, online courses, videos, e-modules, pdfs, list servs - the list goes on and on and on. Any type of computer-based learning from your laptop, your iPad or your smart phone, anything you can grab from the web, download, participate in virtually, log onto or phone into, is elearning. As one particular case in point, healthcare workers in all phases of the industry from surgeons to receptionists are being asked to change their work processes to seamlessly incorporate the use of information technology to provide better patient care. It only makes sense that one of the ways to migrate these workers to the effective use of technology is to also educate them using those same tools.

Going the Last Learning Mile with LINGOs - 0 views

  •
Last Mile Learning is a key initiative of LINGOs (Learning in NGOs), a not-for-profit NGO. LINGOs' vision is for anyone working to reduce poverty and alleviate suffering in the developing world to have access to world-class learning opportunities at little or no cost. about LingosThe "last mile" concept originated in the telecommunications/cable industry. The "last mile" is the final leg of delivering connectivity from a communications provider to a customer. This last mile is a logistical challenge because mapping the final destination wires and cables to remote rural areas without an existing structure of connectivity is physically rigorous. The "last mile" idea also applies to serving areas in need of humanitarian relief. Aid supplies are sometimes able to reach a central transport hub in an affected area but need the additional planning and networking to get resources transferred to those pockets of need without waste, loss, or misdirection. With LINGOs' Last Mile Learning, educational resources reach those critically in need, capitalizing on existing intellectual capital, goodwill and efficiencies of scale.

The future of Flash - 0 views

  •
I have some legacy Flash projects that are up for revamp, it has simple interactive quiz type questions. If you were in my position, would you switch to HTML5? Moreover, I am looking at interactive "games" software etc Raptivity, it's almost entirely in Flash. Would you recommend buying Raptivity? I'm really sorry to say that it's stupid for the whole world to be trying to get rid of a technology that is working well and pervasive. Many of us have invested heavily in Flash. Am I to think now that I have to avoid Flash? Obviously, the games and fun interactive activities like crossword puzzles, etc are most suitable for Mobile devices. However, many of us invested heavily in Flash and non-technical as I am, I question if HTML5 can indeed replace Flash. I just want to hear your views.
