  • možností spolupráce je participativní model, kdy knihovnu tvoří nejen pedagog či informační specialista ve škole, ale také studenti, rodiče či čtenáři knihovny. Takto koncipovaná knihovna musí mít nějakého manažera, který bude dohlížet na obsah a především dodržování formálních zásad (tak jako každá knihovna má i každé téma na Wikipedii). Participativní model[6] je zajímavý hned z několika důvodů. Kolem školy (případně knihovny) vybuduje komunitu lidí, kteří se na její činnosti budou podílet a budou se o ni zajímat. Pokud se podaří vtáhnout do tvorby takové digitální knihovny také rodiče, dochází k posílení jejich vztahu ke škole a vzdělání vůbec. Studenti se mohou rozvíjet v informačních i technických dovednostech, jsou vedeni k tomu, aby spolu aktivně spolupracovali.
  • Participativní model vede také k typicky mnohem lepším výsledkům, než jakých může dosáhnout jednotlivec nebo uzavřený kolektiv. Je sice náročnější na volbu tématu, řízení a další procesní činnosti, ale současně nabízí možnost lepšího využití velkého lidského kapitálu, který je k dispozici všude kolem. V neposlední řadě je tvorba knihovny zajímavou podobou neformálního vzdělávání, což by měla být jedna z úloh jak moderní školy, tak také knihovny.
