Self Check Form: Module 4.3 ( Revised Addition) - 10 views

Thanks Ann. I appreciate that comment. I think the reason I put that in there was because modules are on-going and can be improved as the learners and I progress through them.

Wikis: A platform for Innovation in the Classroom - 1 views

This weeks lesson on CMS or LMS includes the Wiki...which I just love. I am certain as I use this tool, there will be probs. Right now, I really like it. Coupled with Elluminate as a synchronous meeting area, it can by pass the older LMS systems. For example, a instructor at Shoreline is working on updating Elluminate to fit their needs for teaching completely from this system. Unfortunately, I may never see the end result.

A Virtual World Video - 5 views

  •
Just click and play. If you want to know what kinds of skills your students need and will be using in just 5 years from now, it may be important to follow futurists and developing technology...for instance, holograms and touchable holograms which will certainly benefit medical students. I had the experience of a robotic operation using the De Vinci robot. Only a handful of doctors were able to operate this way. Mine was a prof at UW, a respected researcher with Fred Hutch and a practicing surgeon with Swedish. Swedish was, at the time, the only hospital with that capability. He sat at a computer...several feet away and operated by looking at the computer.

P.S. It was major sugery and I was sent home the next day. I was back to work in less that two weekends and one work week!

Is Your Cell Phone Bugged? - 2 views

  •
Again, I have lived with my phone being bugged. The bottom line is: being informed; not being involved in anything you don't want made public; and know your rights.
  •
Thanks Jen.. Darn I fell for that one!!

Big Brother is Watching You! - 2 views

  •
I have posted the FBI can hear when cell phone is turned off; Is Your Cell Bugged?; and Big Brother is Watching as food for thought and because of earlier comments. The question is: In an Open Society how many freedoms are we willing to give up to be protected from Terrorist attacks? A thought worth pondering.

I hear that one loud and clear Jen!

Evan Sveum's Instructional Design Blog - 3 views

  •
This article seems to be a good example of the type of design I hope to accomplish. Evan is a fellow University of Wisconsin graduate and has pursued an interesting career in design. His resume/blog was well worth the time it took me to explore and read it.

Instructional Goals and Objectives - 1 views

I needed to refer to this piece of Evan's Instructional Design advice. The Goals are relatively easy to conceptualize. The module objectives are a bit more difficult.

Microsoft "Surface" the Possibilities - 2 views

The future of computers are not only surface with multi points of movement but holograms or actually virtual picture of the people talking or instructing. You might want to look at what the futurist are saying and predicting. This is what our students will be working with and then some. Nano tech will make it even better with less.

I think it depends on the hologram presentation and how it interacts within the application. I think we will have to wait and see what they do with this in the future. Do to te secrecy involved, we don't have answers yet.
  •
I am at the EDVP right now and am dying to click on that link. Unfortunately, they do not have the ability to watch videos on their computer. I have to wait until tonight, since the college will not allow us to go on line.
  •
Oh I loved the DV telepresence Immersion Room. What a great way to teach in the future. I think touchable holograms is even better! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3seTlvQtIgc&feature=related

The Machine is (Changing) Us: YouTube and the Politics of Authenticity - 1 views

I am not certain "1984" isn't happening with the ability to spy in chat rooms and all online applications by the government. Also, think about the video cameras for controlling traffic at stop lights! Ouch! Anyway, we seldom hear about what Homeland Security is up to. That worries me. Abuse happens and has happened in the past...Watergate, etc...just read WIKI Leaks ( I have not) to get a feeling for what government does behind the scenes, not to even mention torture. The problem with security clearances and top secret info is it usually keeps info from citizens, our enemies already know what we're up to!

I think credit cards have chips to track your purchases and maybe even your what-a-bouts! Not to mention my Safeway, Albertson's and etc...discount cards. I will have to locate that book on break.

Hi Ann...I think the articles I have presented show that the early boomers are the healthiest and will live longer than any generation in the future. The later boomers will have increasing shorter life spans and willnot be as healthy. There are a variety of reasons for this.

http://www.babyboomer-magazine.com/news/127/ARTICLE/1215/2009-07-24.html This video and article might shed some light on the comments I made to your comments Ann. There are many more.

On my wiki space...I have a hour long video that goes into all of this aging of the boomers and stats, etc.

There will be! My post on my blog listed above has an article about how to do this. You might want to click on it and read the blog.

Final Portfoilo #10 Blog Post Relecting on Learning - 16 views

Today our senior population is aging at a rapid rate. Is it possible we, as a society, are sending them to an early end of life dead line because of our attitudes and out moded beliefs regarding aging in America? Can we not help keep their minds alive and well by changing some of our society's institutions...of higher education?
  •
Thanks you for your comments Mary Ann...the bottom line reads, we may be killing off our aged population by sentencing them to give up and give in to old out-moded concepts!

Metaphors for online teaching - 20 views

I watched and listened to the video and gave some thought to the two questions. I would like to think of it as being a magician. With each new act of magic, I allow the students to understand how things look on the outside; but let them know how they actually work on the inside to give that illusion. I still prefer to facilitate their learning experience and allow them to create their own magic in whatever direction they want to take it in. The online tools are the props for the magic act. The magic act is the idea of concepts and how they work and can be applied. After that they become the magicians and create their own acts or magic ( this is the individual creative piece).

Where do Good Ideas Come From? - 0 views

  •
After watching Jen's post RSA Animate-21st Century Enlightenment, I saw this video and thought...hmmmm. Ideas develop because two minds are better than one! Or, we need each other and interaction on the WWW. Also, ideas can be tested to see if they work!
