What Does Internet Blocking Suggest to Students? | ISTE Connects - Educational Technology - 0 views

...And as an educator who firmly believes in the right of free and universal access to information, it would be disgraceful to mark this year and not criticize the attempts by Chinese officials to write that ugly chapter out of the history of their country. Likewise it is disgraceful when developed countries celebrate the Chinese ascension as an economic power while casting a blind eye - or a knowing glance - in the direction of the Tiananmen dead

Justin Reich - Better Strategies Needed for School Internet Access - washingtonpost.com - 1 views

Content filters are knee-high fences around the Internet: They may trip up older folks, but teens leap right over. Walk the halls of a public school, and students will readily share tips for evading filters, some of which would be good work-arounds for the Great Firewall of China

Getting Things Done Explained for Students - Getting Things Done - Lifehacker - 0 views

  • turn everything into an action
    • Bruce Vigneault

This is a must. The action should describe the behavior that needs to be done.
    • Bruce Vigneault

Also, specify 'when' and 'where' this action will take place.
  • Way too many students think of an agenda or a planner as synonymous with a to-do list. It doesn't make any sense to write a new assignment down on a planner under a date—that's deadline-oriented thinking that just begs for procrastination.
    • Bruce Vigneault

I do the same thing. By putting it on a calendar, it tells me that I don't have to think about till then....
  • This will probably consist mostly of questions you'd like to ask another student or the teacher.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • if you miss your inbox for a day, that means you won't see it until the day after, which is when it's due
  • Instead, just reserve some time on your calendar to get the work done every week; right after class is actually remarkably efficient, but there's nothing wrong with just scheduling an hour right before your class to hammer out the work.

Google Wave: You need to pay attention to this. - Jason Kolb re: the Future of the Inte... - 0 views

  •
So here's the deal with Wave: If you deal in technology, and you get this one wrong, you'll miss the boat. And it's a big boat. If, on the other hand, you get this one right, you have the potential to do some incredible innovation.\n\nIn a nutshell, this is the next revolutionary leap in Internet application architecture. Maybe the first truly revolutionary leap since HTTP itself.\n\nI've been wanting to write this post for a while, but first I wanted to read fully thru and digest the specs and available code. I haven't done any posts about XMPP for quite a while, but you're going to start hearing a whole lot about it, and not just from me.

Benettonplay! Flipbook! - Maker - 15 views

Flipbook looks like an amazing and easy animation creator. Students can draw and create right on the website. They make their animations frame-by-frame. This web2.0 tool could be applied to any unit for my science students. I would love to have them make a step-by-step animation of a cell going through mitosis!
