Social Network Knowledge Construction: Emerging Virtual World Pedagogy - 5 views

  •
Thought piece by Dr. Lisa Dawley published in 2009 in On The Horizon. This publication dealt with social learning in the virtual world Second Life but can be applied on other online learning communities. What is especially useful is the social network knowledge construction matrix that cover five degrees of involvement in the learning community. These levels are identifying the network, lurking, contributing, creating and leading.

A challenge to connectivism - 2 views

  •
Invited by Siemens, Kerr offers a challenge to the theory of connectivism.
  •
Interesting read. Admittedly, the dine differences between learning theories is a bit beyond me, but if Siemens thought it was important that people heard the counter view then it must be substantive. While some of the comments by Kerr don't seem to necessarily counter Siemens' views, they certainly do add to the conversation.

Connectivism is navigationism - 1 views

  •
The first I have heard of the concept of "navigationism" instead of connectivism. The article seems to negate the existence of the theory of connectivism, while elevating the concept of constructivism.
  •
Interesting read. Similar themes to A Challenge to Connectivism (http://learningevolves.wikispaces.com/kerr), but in a more academic and non-contrary tone. Argues that connectivism is a subset of navigationism, but doesn't force a separation of navigationism and costructivism. The charts on 13-14 were useful.
