Physical impairments come in many forms and can generally be classified as a loss or limitation of function in muscle control or movement or a limitation in mobility. This may include hands that are too large or small for a keyboard, shakiness, arthritis, paralysis, and limb loss, among other difficulties.

This article explores three different types of learning theories as applied to distance education or learning, a non-traiditonal means of learning where students are not physically present in the classroom for instruction. While the paper discusses the cognitive-behaviourist and social constructivist theories in this learning model, it also highlights the connectivism approach. It is made known in the text that the connectivism theory caters to the constant evolvement of the act of learning as it functions on the premise of building understanding by making meaningful connections between networks of information. It is to be appreciated that this text points out the strengths and weaknesses of the theory. When applied, this theory can be a struggle for students as the theory is extremely individualized and relies on the student to act as the "central connector" in their own learning, often leaving students weary from the energy exerted and sometimes confused by a lack of structured guidance and the responsibility to take control of their own learning.

This is a really good site with loads of physics and chemistry simulations on everything from the greenhouse effect to electron diffraction.

This is a phenomenal collection of science simulations. I've used them both as a demonstration on my SMARTboard to drive home some point and as labs where students use the simulations to discover key points on their own.

Lessons and videos that can be used in Physical Education!

This is a new site that I like to visit with students. It allows the opportunity for them to take a brain break and pick which activity they do. What I enjoy is that there are calming ones that we can use when they come in from recess/lunch and dancing ones for after a long test/lesson.

This is my favorite website for elementary kids to get some wiggles out. The kids love the variety of activities, along with getting "points" and then leveling up to different characters. I love the site because I have the ability to choose an amount of time for the students to engage in physical activity and what I want to focus on. I made "Choose the Go Noodle" reward cards for homework winners.

One of my favorite blogs for discovering new tech to use in the classroom. This is a recent post that focuses specifically on student health and using technology to provide in-classroom physical activity.

Not only does this resource provide a solid description of what a PLN is, it also answers the important "why do I need one" question. It was particularly helpful to get an idea of how social media is essential to a strong PLN.

A great article that offers many valid and important reasons that an instructor should join PLNs.

Great site with a lot of simulations/games on mechanics topics

Stephen Downes's paper on knowledge contains insights about many topics, including the types of knowledge, emergence (the idea that some knowledge comes through connections between events, actors, or things), and knowledge distribution. Downes flagrantly displays his cognitive bias in his offhand dismissal of political conspiracies when discussing physicality, but makes many interesting and thought provoking points.

This article shows how to engage students and improve learning and comprehension of subject material, without the traditional lecture.  I will need a little latitude with this article and the assignment of social media in the classroom. This article does not focus on the use of social media but explains how systems can be used to prime students prior to coming to class and at the same time inform the instructor what areas students are having difficulties with at the time.  This is great because instructors and students do not have to go over information that has already been learned. Social media can be the vehicles used for this type of communication. 

Wolfram|Alpha is more than a search engine. It gives you access to the world's facts and data and calculates answers across a range of topics, including science, nutrition, history, geography, engineering, mathematics, linguistics, sports, finance, music... This is a great review site for students. I tend to use it as a refresher for algebra for my physics students. Care must be taken however that they don't use it as a cheating shortcut for math courses.

The fun and easy way to learn basic algebra for students in grades 3 - 8. A whole-brain approach to algebraic equations and word problems. Teachers can use physical classroom sets, a computer program or an app. Also works well for at-risk students or those with cognitive difficulties.
