This is a great website for basic math fact fluency. It's free, easy and kids love it. What is so great is that the practice they do at school can also be done at home (if they have access to a computer with internet). The pros at Xtra math have completely automated the system of fact fluency in the classroom!

This resource breaks down what they are, who started them/researched them, why they are significant, what is their future, their downfalls and their importance in education. This resource concisely explains PLE's and what educators need to know about them. The takeaway from this resource is that PLE's cause more reflection and deeper understanding, as well as develops student's information fluency to analyze the information presented on the internet.

Links are provided to sites such as those that promote/develop citizenship, critical thinking, creativity, communication, research fluency, etc.

Seamon states in this article that there is evidence that social communication (PLN) can strengthen human relationships, particularly for introverts. It may help foster family and business as well. It encompasses learning from feedback, insights, new contacts, and is based in reciprocity and trust. It is needed to increase the chance of higher levels of learning maturity.

The author addresses concerns about the feelings of isolation that can stem from the use of technology (in the sense that it is utilized to the exclusion of in-person connections) but makes sure to point out the benefits of technology as evidenced by Personal Learning Networks.

This is a link to download a PDF that gives goes in depth about what a personal learning environment is, how it compares to a LMS, and even gives some downsides. I really like this document as it increased my knowledge of PLNs.

I really liked this resource. I have not done much work with PLN's, and this helped me get a better grasp of the concept. The resource really explains how PLN's should be used and what they can and can't help with. I enjoyed the resource. Thank you for sharing.

Sarah - I think you found a gem here. When I began to read the article, I felt that the writer was advocating a narrow focus - solely academic contributors to a PLN/PLE. As I read, the writer added the need to have a variety of contributors in a PLN. The writer addressed the need for members of a PLN to possess information fluency to distinguish a contributor speaking from a position of authority vs someone writing a narrative opinion. I hope (speaking with what little I know) to expand and grow a PLN that has both elements.

If you are looking for reading strategies for elementary students, this site is wonderful. There are strategies for each of the components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) as well as writing. For each strategy, there is also a chart that recommends whether to implement the strategy before, during, and/or after reading.
