I have been using this Web site as a resource since I first started in educational publishing way back in 1998. This has been a long-term and consistent source for information, ESL expert reviewers, and just general discussion around what needs to happen for English-language learners to have success in school. If you have ESL students and are not sure what to do for them, this is a great place to start and to find individuals who are willing to give tips and support your efforts.

I have integrated the use of this tool into my ESL lessons. ESL students may have difficulty identifying locations of errors in their paper. Grammarly identifies locations that there may be an issue. A student may not know how to use an online spelling and grammar checker properly. These tools only provide suggestions, not answers. Students need practice applying the principles they either know or need to learn based on recommendations from the tool. This tool has browser plugins so students can check the grammar of their emails as well. There is a free and paid version of Grammarly.

This website allows ELL/ESL Learners to copy and paste text from online articles into the tool which then turns each word into a clickable button for instant translation. Helpful for students who just get stuck on a few words or do not understand the context of certain words.

ESL Videos is a site which allows users to make quizzes from YouTube videos. There are already a number of shared quizzes and videos made. These quizzes are put into levels. I think some teachers may find the quizzes applicable to native speaker students as well.

This blog post is self-explanatory with the title, but what caught my eye was the graphic representation of "Design Your PLN." That is a cool graphic. I like the 4 categories and the designation of high or low profile, commitment level, and communication stream. I only recognized about half of the logos/icons in the boxes so I need to find out more!

I found the image used in this article and put it on my blog post. In thinking about my uses of PLNs, I haven't really considered the impact they could have on the ESL community. This is a great resource for a friend of mine that works with the parents of ELL students.

A free study site for English as a Second Language (ESL) students with games, quizzes, puzzles, MP3 files with transcripts, listening practice, pronunciation practive, etc.

These videos have a short and long versions as well as an associated PDF document. The videos focus on teaching one topic and the class is other adult ESL learners. These videos would be good supplemental at home review videos for associated class topics.

A video discussion tool that is great for students of all ages. You can present a question, they can respond to video, or do a book talk. The possibilities are endless. And the best thing - it is free.

I have used this in my ESL composition classes successfully since learning about it. It is a video response tool.

2Lingual is a ELL/ESL Learner friendly search tool powered by Google. It allows learners to search for articles in both English and a language of their choice from a drop-down list of many languages.
