visual recording on the iPad, illustrated - Ninmah Meets World - 1 views

Rachel S. Smith of New Media Consortium demonstrates how she uses an iPad to visually record presentations (think doodling!) She demonstrates narrated QT video using Brushes and iMovie. GREAT ideas for presentation development! For EDTEC572 students: I KNOW the semester is over.. But some of you will think this is really nifty :)

PLEASE! Keep adding great resources to our diigo group! I use these ideas all the time for inspiration and new things. Thank you so much, Cathy!

The Reality of ICT in the Classroom - 1 views

This article seems to counter a lot of what we hoped: It indicates that giving computers to students may lead to lower academic performance. Hmmm. We may need to look at the methodology behind this study.
  •
I agree with you Sonya. I also think that the article does not state how students are expected to use the computers. Are teachers being trained? I think more variables are needed to support the claim that technology is not "making a dent" in education. It's like giving a kid a baseball bat and expect him to hit a homerun. The kid needs coaching, preferably from someone who knows what they are talking about!

I found this useful in that I could see building on it as I presented how WE would use social media in OUR classroom when presenting to my students. It also made me hungry for different sources on the subject such as guidelines and theory. Off to search ...

Embracing Social Media in the Classroom - 1 views

  •
This article reinforces the importance of creating structure when using social media in the classroom. "... the use of social media in school can't be left to chance; it needs to be mediated." I think this article makes great points about integrating SM into the classroom and its role in empowering our students.
  •
This is such an important topic, Christine. As we begin to bring the social media tools that our students use on an everyday basis into the classroom it is so important that we create that same "structure" and "guidance" that we do with all of the other tools and materials that we use. They need and expect this from us in this rapidly changing era of technology.

This is the exact thing I need for just that reason, Lori. I got into a "debate" over this at work last week. I am SO forwarding this one to the Director of IT ;)

Ive heard of teachers using facebook as a way to teach students how to write biographies. They start by choosing a historical figure then creating a facebook page as if they were that figure. Then they use that as an outline for their writing. cool.

A discussion of appropriate use AND NON USE of technology in the art and craft of teaching in higher education. Good discussion starter for instructional design and tech integration. Examples of when technology (ie. tools, gadgets and trends) did not result in "better" learning.  A reminder that we DESIGN instruction intentionally - not according to the latest fad.
