iPads in the Classroom are Changing the Face of Education | Mac|Life - 0 views

  • In the Auburn School District, administrators are using the iPad in controlled areas to prove its efficacy in raising literacy rates and teaching mathematical skills.
  • In the study, half of the 16 kindergarten classrooms were randomly assigned iPads to use for nine weeks, and they showed increased improvement results over the non-iPad classrooms
  • “The iPad had interesting possibilities in terms of helping students access what they know [while interacting] in a very different way with material and information.”

This article is about integrating ipads into the classroom.I found this article to be very interesting because Fairfield County is wanting to adopt ipads in their school district, and I wont lie I was very hesitant on that idea, but after reading this and seeing the extensive studies that have been done, I think it could be very beneficial.

I really like this article, it talks about teachers who are using the ipads in the classroom, and how they are able to keep the kids on track and make sure the students are using the ipads the way they are meant to be, not goofing around on them.

Interesting article about using iPads in schools. I have experienced working with young children and iPads and it has always been a success. This article promotes them and talks about some of their main uses to teach. On January 19, 2012, Apple made a significant announcement that could change the educational landscape forever. There are several parts to the announcement - one is a software application that enables anyone to create a 'text book' and the other is a distribution platform for textbooks inside of the already popular iBooks application (a free download that runs on the iPad or iPhone.).iBooks 2 is an upgrade to the iBooks application that is the primary reading application of iOS.

Do you have concerns for the growing challenges of the iPads? - 0 views

  •
This article (and its comments) demonstrate how educators feel with regards to the advances of iPads and technology, in general. Capturing students' attention is a challenge to begin with and iPads seem to add fuel to the fire. Sometimes it appears that you are either on board or not with the iPad education integration, but there is more to it than just that.

Evaluating the iPad for Education -- Campus Technology - 0 views

  •
A private liberal arts college in Oregon took Apple's iPad through its paces to test its value as a a tool for learning inside the classroom and out. The evaluation followed a pilot of Amazon's first-generation Kindle, which the college eventually decided against. Reed College is trying to find a way to go completely paperless in it's classrooms. It is interesting to note that this professor feels that students would be less likely to check email or log onto social networking sites on an ipad because they are smaller and more difficult to hide behind than a laptop.

The Smart Way to Use iPads in the Classroom - 1 views

This article was very interesting and informative. The key to IPads for everyone in the classroom is that you have to have teachers that are knowledgeable and can help the students with them. I thought that the school in this article is doing an excellent job with IPads.

I like the way that this app works because you can include the parents
  • thousands of apps have been created since the posting of that list
  • Email grade, attendance, or status reports to students (and/or parents)
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • Create new classes right on your iPad
  • Add new assignments and scores
  • Administer and collect student results from common, summative, formative and rubrics-based assessments
  • Pick a student at random just by giving your device a shake or tapping the screen

This could be used for games by using it to randomly pick groups or who to go first, if no one volunteers.

I thought this was neat because, now-a-days they have students using iPads in the classroom so teachers should too. What better way to do that than use a grade book app.

Pros And Cons Of iPads In The Classroom - Forbes - 0 views

From smartphones to tablets, Wi-Fi to 3G/4G: I cover telecom & mobile. Conventional wisdom says that loaning Apple's bestselling iPad to college students would be a popular move. A seven-week-long study by the University of Notre Dame found that students did indeed like learning with the tablet computers, but that they used the devices differently than was expected.

Will Technology Save Public Education? - 1 views

  • Will Technology Save Public Education?
  • Hundreds of millions of dollars (and much more on the way) are being spent on getting iPads and other tablets into the hands of teachers and students all over the country in classes as early as kindergarten.
  • is there really a public education crisis in America? The answer to this question seems to be an emphatic "YES!" given the popular interpretation of the results of two international achievement tests (PISA and TIMSS). American students, after being at the top for years, have been in a tailspin and now finish in the middle of the pack in tests of math and science when compared to students in other countries.

This is not actually the "news" article I originally thought it was but instead a very liberal ideological point of view that if a student is of a minority and poor, they can't make it. To me this is an example of 'soft-bigotry of low expectations'.
  • The U.S. also has far more diversity than other countries, with fully 25 percent of public school students as English as Second Language speakers. Additionally, many other countries engage in cherry-picking, where the best students are selected early and channeled into competitive educational programs who take the international tests while those who don't perform well are placed in trade schools.

I chose this article mainly because it gave some of the cons of educational technology. Although I do believe the article was a little dramatic, I did like some of the points that the author was making and i think its important to always see the pros and cons of things.
