Using IPhoto in the classroom - 0 views

  •
This site focuses specifically on how to use IPhoto as a classroom tool. This source seems to use a combination of cognitive and behavioral activities. I believe this site uses a more learner centered approach. It gives visuals as well as reading to help the learner to understand concepts. I believe they are meeting a goal of the learner centered approach, aiding in human cognition (Mayor, 2009).

Meyers-Letson, B. (2006), Using Garage Band in the Classroom - 0 views

  •
This site created by Meyers is a very interactive site for learning about how Garage Band can be used in the classroom. This site provides a great amount of hands on examples to show how this program is a useful tool in the classroom. Mayer lets us know that a major focus of the technology centered approach is "using multimedia technology as aid to human cognition (2009, 13)." I believe that this site does that with all the examples and tutorials provided. Mayer, R. E. (2009). Multimedia learning (2nd ed.). Cambridge, MA: Cambridge University Press.

ILife in the Classroom, University of Stevenson - 0 views

  •
This site was used as a guide to help educators learn about how ILife can be useful in the classroom. The way information is presented requires more cognitive activity than behavioral. The site seems to be more technology centered, because it focuses more on the technology itself. As Mayer (2009) suggests the this approach focuses more on the capabilities of the technology.

Storybird - 1 views

Storybird is another presentation tool that will be used as a means of sharing information throughou the workshop. Storybird will be one of the options for teachers to use in creating their final product. Storybird is a free online tool used to create and promote digital storytelling. The website is very user-friendly with strict parameters which is wonderful for K12 education. The website and its creators pride themselves on being "family-friendly". With this in mind teachers can also feel at ease sharing this tool with their students.

Pre-Training website - Screencast - 1 views

What it does: Capture your keystrokes, mouse movement, and screens to teach someone how to do a procedure. You can add voice to explain it. Why this one? It is free and very easy to use. Learning curve is quick. I have used it for my company many times. Learning benefit? For essential learning, learners can see exactly what they are supposed to do. When they trial and error it on their own, if they make a mistake, they can easily go back and watch the video again to discover their possible mis-path

Quizstar - Authentic Assessment - 0 views

Online quiz making tool. Well-suited to assessing essential learning. Explanation of choice: Free and, unlike others I found, was selected for ISTEs 101 Best web sites 2005-2006.
  •
This site allows users to create online quizzes and organize results. This site is effective, because it allows the user to create questions that have multimedia files attached instead of just basic questions with no graphics or videos. Students can also review quizzes and see what the correct answers were if they missed any questions. The site also guides the user through any possible dilemmas by providing a page of FAQ's and a link to contact the QuizStar support team.

    * Name of the site: University of Wisconsin-Stout Authentic Assessment * URL: http://www3.uwstout.edu/soe/profdev/assess.cfm * Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: This is an index of sites to help teachers understand and develop authentic assessment, including ways to grade, the need for rubrics, and several articles to make the argument for assessments that are real-world based. The site is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). * Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on). A great tool to show video demonstrations before professional development. In this video students in London do an interactive activity with students in China using the IWB with audio and video features. The students basically demonstrate the interactive capabilities of the IWB.
