Other movie makers may have many more bells and whistles. However the capabilities of this package are broad enough to satisfy most teachers' needs. The simplicity of the package is an invaluable benefit for teachers who do not have the time to spend learning new packages. Learning benefits: Both essential and generative learning can result from this multimedia option. Videos can be short (limited capacity) and provide dual coding (Mayer, 2009). Mayer, R. E. (2009). The graphic organizers provided here are, for the most part, plain in appearance. These will allow students to create their own look to these organizers whenever possible. The files are presented in .pdf format. There are approximately 80 different graphic organizers on this site. I found the options in this site more adaptable to different uses. Plus I prefer some of the editing options in Adobe Acrobat over MS Word and PowerPoint.

The link above is a great website that provides an abundance of information on creating authentic assessments for multimedia projects. The website provides links for creating rubrics on all types of multimedia projects. One can find a rubric for group projects, wikis, blogs, PowerPoints and podcasts, and PowerPoint's. One can use the rubrics to help determine various aspects in creating a multimedia project. The main page contains a quick link section to help the user easily find the needed links. Rubrics are a great way for the learner to understand the requirements of a project. A rubric falls under generative learning. Many times when a project is assigned, the student has a difficult time determining what exactly should be completed to meet all the requirements. Generative learning helps the learner make sense of the material and supports an engaging learning environment. By using a rubric on an assessment activity, the instructor ensures that the participants are actively engaged by helping them organizer the expectations and criteria.

trackstar offers teachers a way to control the internet for students. http://trackstar.4teachers.org/trackstar/;jsessionid=D1671293B1A30DDCF0425D894C2729D9 With trackstar the teacher generates a list of sites that the students will use to answer a given series of questions. The questions should lead to discovery on the websites annotated in the trackstar. I chose trackstar because it is very easy to use and has been in use for quite a while. This means that many trackstars have already been created for use by other teachers. A quick search through the database could deliver exactly what you need for your next activity.
