This is an excellent collaborative brainstorming tool for creating a mind map. This could be excellent for PreTraining or for a graphic organizer. Imagine your class having this open while you present key information, and they create their mind map of your concepts.

Bubbl us is a graphic organizer used to organize ideas. as I viewed the site, I thought I could offer this to my students who might be intimidated by the use of graphic organizers on the web. Using this site might reduce the extraneous process because the goal is to organize thoughts not learn a new tool.

The Kerpoof website is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company. What is Kerpoof? The answer to that is not so simple. Kerpoof is all about having fun, discovering things, and being creative. Teachers and students can use Kerpoof to make artwork, make an animated movie, students can earn Koins which you can trade for fun things in a store, make a printed card, t-shirt, or mug, tell a story, and make a drawing. Kerpoof has free lesson plans for a variety of disciplines, from math and science to social studies and foreign languages available for download. Educators can register students and arrange them into classes. Students may chat with each other, post creations on a class message board (moderated by the teacher), and collaborate on a project in real-time from different computers. State and National Standards are cross-referenced with Kerpoof they can be used to meet. Kerpoof also publishes a free electronic newsletter that highlights new features, lesson plans, and ideas for using Kerpoof in the classroom.

In this Prezi, Pappas (2011) has designed a presentation that prompts the viewer to think about the reflective culture of a school. Coupled with the content in Pappas' (2010, January) blog series, "a Taxonomy of Reflection: Critical Thinking for Students, Teachers and Principals," a learner-centered orientation to the process and importance of reflection in schools and learning is achieved. Embedded in the presentation itself are prompts to gain viewers' attention and provide opportunities to consider questions relevant to the content. as noted by Mayer (Laureate Education, 2010), the effectiveness of a technology is based on its application, guided by instructional method. Prezi is an interactive and free presentation tool. You can create slide shows online and present them that way, or download them and show them as a power point type show.

Prezi is a web based power point presentation with a twist. It is easy to use and FREE. I would encourage my workshoppers to use this tool to have students create the steps of learning a dance. This would be a great way to present the knowledge that they have acquired by using the Wii Just Dance program. I might also suggest that they use it to have students create and teach their own warm-ups.

Blockposters is a free online tool that will accept .jpg or .gif images up to 1 MB in size, allow for poster sizing, and return a .pdf file containing the image rendered across multiple pages. Simply print the file and assemble the pages for an instant poster-sized rendition of an image, graphic organizer, instruction page, or just about anything else. This is a tool I have been looking to find for some time! While I have tried replicating the functionality of this online tool using various desktop tools, the ease of use of Blockposters is amazing and the fact that a .pdf file is returned for easy downloading and printing is a welcome surprise. This tool could easily be used for pre-training by enlarging for print most graphic organizers, mind maps, and other types of assistive instructional material that facilitates essential cognitive processing tasks. By printing a graphic organizer in large format and posting in front of a class, students can easily refer to the diagram as needed while using their computers directly in front of them. Posting a large scale printout also eliminates students having to shuffle through miscellaneous printouts on their desktops while operating their computers. Handouts of the graphic organizer could be provided, but the timing of providing the handout could be strategically incorporated into the presentation / workshop to eliminate extraneous materials during the discovery and learning phases.

However, wisemapping provides excellent file export functionality saving as .jpg, .png, .pdf, and other file formats. also of interest are collapsible / expandable branches that could facilitate a gradual introduction of topics in a live lesson, as well as the ability to include notes, Web links, and a variety of icons in each node as needed. While much of the formatting options are present, as compared to webspiration, some items are not as robust. With more time, however, the functionality may rival or surpass webspiration or other products. In the mean time, the saving functionality, branching without termination nodes (use a line instead), and collapsibility are features that may prove more useful than comparable tools. Considering essential cognitive processing, the tool may assist with selecting and organizing complex material in order to reach a generative processing state. This may be possible by presenting information in a keyed and organized approach, which is a central premise of most mind mapping software.

Spaaze is a free online tool that offers a virtual endless desktop onto which a variety of information containers can be placed. Virtual hotspots can be created for quick maneuvering to critical locations. also, documents, images, and videos can be linked to or uploaded directly, depending on the type of or degree of service being utilized (free, pay as you go, or subscription). While this is a form of graphic organizer, it does not utilize links between content objects. Rather, like objects are simply placed next to each other somewhere on the virtual desktop. Such items could be considered grouped or arranged in such a manner that would mimic the organization found in most graphic organizers or mind maps. The tool could be useful for students to organize information in a free-form format, which could help foster their organizational skills and develop essential cognitive processing skills. In sum, the tool could be useful for a variety of applications and needs and offers a drag-and-drop method of storage and organization; which could take on unique characteristics per the preferences of each user.

Vocabulary a to Z- Custom Vocabulary Builder http://www.vocabularya-z.com/ I believe that Vocabulary a to Z can be used for pre-training because before I ever start anything new I need my students to be aware of and know the definitions for words that will be introduced and by doing vocabulary before I start the new information front loads my students to be prepared for the information to come. Vocabulary a to Z is a site that offers a free trial for 30 days and then requires a low annual payment of $19.95. I have found this twenty dollars a year to be indispensable when I consider the types of products that I am able to create with it. The wonderful thing about Vocabulary a to Z is that it offers so many different types of resources for all different subjects, grade levels and disciplines, but the feature that I love the most is the custom vocabulary builder they provide. I can enter my list of vocabulary words for any given novel, text book chapter, poem, anything and this custom builder helps me to organize and produce high quality and visually pleasing handouts and information sheets for my students.

Blogger This site is a good site for creating a blog. Particpants of my course will be required to create a blog. This blog woud be a generative learning assignment becasue particpants are activly involved. This blog allows for uploads of videos and pictures both of which will be required in particpants' final project. Blogger is a free site and simple to learn and use. Participants will need a Goggle account to have a blogger blog. This blog site has a variety of templates to use in designing their blog.

This site provides the tools for you to build up an argument or description of an event, person or historical period by placing items in a virtual box. You can display anything from a text file to a movie. You can also view and comment on the museum boxes submitted by others. MuseumBox is a cross curricular tool useful in areas of the curriculum where students have to assess, investigate or debate issues and explore and develop ideas. In addition it provides an excellent opportunity for integrating ICT into the curriculum. Not only is this site really original in its concept and organization, but it allows teachers to approve, reject, and edit student projects. If a box is approved, it will go live on the DiscoveryBox website within your school or organization's area. The author of the box will be also able to reload the box in the box creator. You may send a message to the user who created it if you choose this option. If a box is rejected, it will be returned to the author with any message. The author will be able to load the box and make changes, or do any further work on it. You can edit the box and make changes to the text and the audio attachments if necessary.

I recall the drill and skill activities of the first computers in my classroom. They were similar to the flashcards previously used with the added advantage of bouncy smiley faces entertaining the students' correct response. The sites shared above go far beyond such response strengthening multimedia. The Chinese proverb goes, "Give me a fish and I eat for a day. Teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime." a proverb for multimedia learning might say tell me information I learn for a day, show me information I learn for a week, teach me to find and use information I learn for a lifetime. This course will model this metaphor for the teachers who will in turn model it for their students as they construct their own knowledge.

Spinscape is not only a great tool as a graphic organizer to find, organize, and share information, but it also allows for real time collaboration with peers from around the world. I like this website over other similar sites because you can add text, images, or graphics to expand on the information provided within the graphic organizer.

Showbeyond http://www.showbeyond.com Showbeyond is a resource that I came across while I was teaching my journalism students how to create a photo essay. Even though I just randomly stumbled across this resource it has proven to be a wonderfully simple to use slide cast program. Slide casts are an online multimedia format that combines and synchronizes slideshows with podcasts. I have found this format perfect for online story telling as well as online presentations. I think Showbeyond is a resource more fit for middle and high school students and educators. Showbeyond allows students and educators to design and create multimedia presentations easily and quickly. Showbeyond is a resource that lets you select and manipulate photos and text to create a visual presentation which you can add podcasts, music, and videos to. I chose Showbeyond because I don't think you can find a more accessible multimedia to create simple presentations on. I say simple because Showbeyond is not capable of some the more advanced features such as animation and timed slides like PowerPoint and MovieMaker are capable of. However, I do use Showbeyond in my classroom often and my students really enjoy the products that they can create.

Diagnostic assessments drive the instruction process, when teachers/presenters know what the students know, need to know or wonder about. Poll Everywhere is an audience response system using standard web technology. It works through text, web, or Twitter, its simplicity and flexibility are earning rave reviews. I love it because responses show up immediately on the screen, allowing the instructor to create a chart, or just show responses. This is a free web-based program for up to 30 responders.

This website allows a user to develop online polls that learners in a workshop/presentation can participate in. With regard to pre-training activities, quick polls can help both learners and the instructor quickly gauge what the learners know before digging into the planned activities. In addition, polls can be designed to engage learners and prepare them for some of the activities they will participate in. The product available at this website provides free access for designing quick polls. It also allows the designer to choose how participants respond to the polls. In addition to text messaging, the designer can use a web address (if mobile devices are not convenient for the setting) to allow easy access. In addition to the interactive capabilities, the polls can be seamlessly integrated into a PowerPoint presentation or website.

Google docs is a great way to merge existing documents, with the ability to create and organize documents online. It is better than a lot of other options because it is free, and transfers across computer platforms.

For a presentation, Google Docs has a presentation tool that is easy to use, free, and accessible from any location with an internet connection. although the presentations are not flashy, they help teachers incorporate multimedia into their instruction and make the technology accessible for all of their students.
