* Pre-training 8847_pre-training o Wordle * http://www.wordle.net/ * Copy and paste text on this website, such as the ISTE NETS-S for digital citizenship, and the website will produce a word cloud. * These word clouds can introduce learners to words that they will use and this is essential learning. * Wordle is the premiere word cloud generator. Several elements can be adjusted, such as fonts, themes, and layouts. There are many famous texts turned into word clouds on this site that you can use. o Wallwisher * http://wallwisher.com/ * If you have used Post It notes to organize your thoughts, collect comments from students or workshop participants, or gathering information through formative assessments, this site will look very familiar. This is the electronic version of collaborative data collection via postings. * Using this as a pre-training site, you can gather participant questions, start a KWL chart, or organize the learners into groups. This is essential learning. * I have not seen another collaborative, online environment that so closely mimics the actual activity described above. This is an easy site to use, and participants can view the wall on your web page or directly on the wall wisher site. The engineers at wall wisher have posted many example walls. * Graphic organizer 8847_graphic_organizers o Bubbl.us * https://bubbl.us/ * Using this site, a learner can create mind maps. With a basic package, you can store up to three mind maps at their site. * By creating mind maps, students are able to organize essential facts, although there may be some generative processing taking place, especially when used collaboratively. * The site automatically uses color themes to denote levels in the mind map. It allows you to save the map as a jpg or embed it in a different website. You can also share your mind maps with other bubbl.us users. o Recipes4Success * http://myt4l.com/index.php?v=pl&page_ac=view&type=tools&tool=graphicorganizers&go_view=edit * This site allows you to choose the type of graphic organizer you would like to create, add a title, add directions or a comment, and print or save the final version of your personalized graphic organizer. * This allows learners to organize essential concepts from the presentation, so that generative processing can take place. * This site was easy to use, and required only a few steps before my personalized KWL chart was generated or saved to my computer. I did not need to create an account to create a graphic organizer. * Presentation 8847_presentations o Prezi * http://prezi.com/ * This site is an online presentation site. It allows for zooming in to different parts of the presentation and embedded content, such as video, graphics and audio. * Generative processing happens as learners build the presentation and create pathways through the material in a cohesive manner, and make connections from the content to external sources. * There is a high learning curve, but it is worth looking at the possibilities that prezi presents. Be warned, the glitz can draw you in and you can easily find yourself creating prezis that create extraneous processing for your learners. Prezi is available as an app for the iPad. o Zoho Shows * http://www.zoho.com/show/index.html * This is an online presentation builder. * The generative processing is in the collaboration that is possible through web based sharing. * This product has rich text editing, the ability to embed the shows in other websites, a collaborative element, and enhanced flowcharts and diagrams. * Authentic assessment activity 8847_activities o Glogster * http://edu.glogster.com/ * Build online, multimedia posters. * Learners showcase the generative processing through the linking of concepts and content. * Glogster EDU allows teachers and students to work in a closed or relatively closed and monitored environment. The interface is easy to use, many different types of files can be added to the glogs, and the resulting glogs are easy to navigate. o Voice Thread * http://voicethread.com/ * Have discussions, post images and videos, make comments, and create a conversation at voice thread. * Generative learning happens in the conversations with other learners, teachers, and others, such as experts, from around the world. * Voice thread allows for multiple ways of adding to the conversation, from cell phones to web cams. The platform is reliable and easy to use.
This is an example of LiveBinder, a great resource collection tool. This particular binder has tabs, which indicate collections of resources, for different age ranges and one for parents and teachers, too. The resources range from tours to case studies to interactive websites and videos.
