"Qrafter is the first QR Code app that is designed for iPad instead of just taking the iPhone version and making it bigger! Qrafter is a free two-dimensional barcode scanner for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Its main purpose is to scan and parse the contents of QR Codes. It can also generate QR Codes when you purchase the "Pro Pack"."

Teachers speak out - the full results of the Guardian Teacher Network survey | Teacher Network Blog | Guardian Professional - 3 views

he job of teaching * Join in the discussion reddit this Comments (1) Wendy Berliner Guardian Professional, Monday 3 October 2011 18.30 BST Article history Teacher Daniel Hartley from Chulmleigh Community College, Devon. Photograph: Apex Back in the summer we decided here at GTN HQ that, with our membership rocketing, it was the right time to mark our first six months in operation with a survey to find out what members thought about teaching today. There were questions across a wide spectrum of topics and, at the end, we left a free text box for teachers to add any comments they wanted to share. It was the dying days of the summer holiday - August 25 - when it went out just after lunch. We knew the survey would take ten or 15 minutes to complete so we weren't quite expecting what happened next, but within those first few hours after its release, we realised you had started something big. By 10.30pm that night we'd had several hundred questionnaires back, which in itself was impressive with many teachers perhaps still away on holiday or back but busy preparing for the new term. The most impressive thing of all was the content of those text boxes. There was just so much of it. Some people wrote several hundred words at a time, speaking clearly from the heart and arguing cogently against the things they felt were going wrong in education. A love of teaching and vocational pleasure felt working with children and young people emerged but it was emerging from a fog caused by far less pleasant aspects of the job - disrespect from society and governments, bullying by senior management, other teachers, parents and students, despair at the parenting skills of some homes and despair with government targets and league tables that were funnelling education into an ever thinner tube feeding stuff that improved Sats and exam results rather than nourishing a lifelong love of learning. One former solicitor questioning the sense of the switch into teaching said: " M

9 New Productivity Tools to Simplify Your Online Life - 13 views

  •
After Google+ entered the social networking scene not so long ago, the number of online distractions hasn't really decreased. At the same time, innovations and smarter solutions to handle your actions online have fortunately continued to thrive too. Instead of the usual to-do lists, news readers, or sharing tools, they tackle things in new and more helpful ways. What's most important for me, is that they slot right into my workflow, and allow me to become more efficient without changing my behavior. A few apps recently managed to do so brilliantly. Here are my favorite new tools to help you stay focused and use the Web more innovatively.

Attach a USB Microphone or Keyboard to Your iPad 2 ~ Chris Pirillo - 0 views

  •
"Up until earlier, I wasn't all that interested in the iPad Camera Connection Kit. However, I learned that one of the attachments can be used to hook up musical instruments and microphones to your device. Now that is seriously cool. However, it has other uses, as I discovered today! With the camera kit, you can plug many USB headsets right into the USB port of the iPad. Certain USB keyboards apparently work, as well."

Dr. Z Reflects: Poof! Your iPad Becomes an Interactive Whiteboard - 5 views

  •
"I have never been a big fan of the Interactive Whiteboards (IWB). We continually cry for more student-centric problem-based learning curriculum and then we introduce these BIG TICKET devices to maintain the teacher's control of the classroom. Where is the sense in that? We need to provide a system where the control is in the students' hands. That IS the definition of student-centric."

Will A Thunderbolt Hit The iPhone/iPad Before A Full Ascension Into The Cloud? - 0 views

  •
"My hunch is that we will hear something from Apple late2011 about Thunderbolt use with iPads/iPhones .. now that the technology is out there on two of their most popular devices .. Thunderbolt seems to be a more viable and smart near-term solution for device sync rather than a full-on cloud sync."

5 Free Collaborative Whiteboard Apps For the iPad - 3 views

  •
" It seems as though the minute the iPad was announced, innumerable light bulbs went off as developers and entrepreneurs everywhere came to the same realization: "We could totally use this device as a digital whiteboard!" Indeed, a search for the word "whiteboard" in the App Store returns a whopping 170 iPad apps. Although the device's 10-inch screen may not compare to a full-sized, physical whiteboard, it can be quite handy to use a virtual whiteboard with team members remotely, and the iPad's form factor suits itself quite well to exactly that. Phil Bradley's weblog: Google Plus; an overview - 7 views

  •
"Google Plus or Google+ or G+ has now been out and about for roughly a week, and I was fortunate enough to get to play with it quite early on. I know that lots of people haven't as yet, so this is an overview post so that when you DO, you'll have some idea of what you're looking at. (Please note: I don't have any invites to give out and I've tried several different ways to share access already. If/when I do, I'll be sure to let people know via my Twitter feed.)"
