Treasure Explorer is a rich educational website where students and teachers contribute socially and engage with Australian history. Treasure Explorer contributes to the National Library's important role of disseminating Australia's cultural heritage, for all Australians. It is an invaluable and creative networking tool for teachers, families and students to share and celebrate knowledge, passion and ideas about Australia. Treasure Explorer also provides an online resource to find out more about the objects, archives and stories represented in the National Library of Australia's Treasures Gallery in Canberra. Treasure Explorer was launched in October 2011. Development of this website was made possible by the generous funding of the Harold Mitchell Foundation.

"Streaming video websites are such a big part of our lives, it's hard to remember a time when they didn't exist. These websites revolutionized our computer video experience - no longer do we have to download every single video we want to watch - it's all right there! But the opposite is also true. Skylines, a photo search engine based in Amsterdam, launched a new product today, a widget that users can customize to show a real-time feed of photos on their website. Through Skylines's widget, users have access to more than five million photos being added daily from various platforms including Twitter, TwitPic, Instagram, Yfrog and Lockerz. The widget, which can be added to any website or online publication for free, displays real-time photos on any topic of choice

Not with Edmodo! The simple and clear design makes it easy to navigate between all of the tools. So there shouldn't be too much confusion for existing users, and teachers who want to learn how to use Edmodo for the first time are met with a sleek and simple interface."

"Mozilla launched a tool that shines a light on the mysterious under-workings of the web economy. Its browser extension, Lightbeam, follows your digital footprint as you surf the web and shows you a real-time visualization of all the websites that are clandestinely tracking and sharing your data."

Not sure if you have already seen this in the past, but this has been a lifesaver for me over the past 2 years. You upload a file, set the width, height, printing, downloading and privacy options and then copy the code the site generates for you. This then allows you to embed the code into any other website as HTML. Once embedded, you can zoom in and out, print and download. My favourite feature is the 'Full screen' button in the bottom right hand corner which enlarges the document so even the weariest of eyes can read it online. You should never really have to print them out at all. Running a Learning Management System means you want to be able to share documents, PDFs, etc but not necessarily have to download them and then open them. This has helped keep our parent community happy as it cuts out another two steps when accessing their newsletter online, and it has come in really handy for ePortfolios. With the release of the Ultranet in all Victorian schools, this type of tool will become even more valuable.

Embedit.in allows you to upload documents and gives you the embed code to put it into a website.

Summarity is a software/website that condenses articles into digestible pieces it culls through the text and finds the sentences that seem most relevant. Summarity produces two types of results - block text of the summary, or a skimmed version that puts the summarized sentences in bold type. You can also use the Summarity bookmarks in your browser to block text or skim the actual website you are reading."

Initiated and funded by AusAID to support its Global Education Program. This is an Australian website with an Australian focus on world issues. The objective of the Global Education website is to increase the amount and quality of teaching of global education in Australian primary and secondary schools. The site supports the AusAID Global Education Program which aims to raise awareness and understanding among Australian school students of international issues, development and poverty, and to prepare them to live in an increasingly globalised world and to be active citizens shaping better futures.

EducationEye allows the user to discover, explore and share new ideas. It maps hundreds of top educational websites, blogs, forums and case studies to provide up to date information about innovative ideas being explored in the education community. The information is then present in a visual format that is itself interactive. Type in your search term and let it find the relevant articles, websites or links. This is a innovative tool from Futurelab and well worth a visit

"If you've ever visited a website that handles even the smallest bit of your personal information, there's a good chance (hopefully) that it's asked you to read through a privacy policy or two. Rather than pour over the details, many of us simply click on 'I AGREE!' and proceed with using the application. Even the companies and websites involved understand this and make it as easy as possible to satisfy lawyers as well as users. What's the harm in essentially ignoring that privacy policy? While the majority of the time it's harmless, there are some ne'er-do-wells that may gather your personal information and sell it to marketers, advertisers, or spammers. While terrible, it's not unheard of."
