After Google+ entered the social networking scene not so long ago, the number of online distractions hasn't really decreased. At the same time, innovations and smarter solutions to handle your actions online have fortunately continued to thrive too. Instead of the usual to-do lists, news readers, or sharing tools, they tackle things in new and more helpful ways. What's most important for me, is that they slot right into my workflow, and allow me to become more efficient without changing my behavior. A few apps recently managed to do so brilliantly. Here are my favorite new tools to help you stay focused and use the Web more innovatively.

You have been able to create graphic organizers with Google Drawings. for a while. Graphic organizers are a great tool to share information, explain a concept, or illustrate a relationship using elements including images, shapes, text, colors, and connecting lines. They are useful in education over a wide range of year levels and learning ares. There are many useful tools for creating graphic organizers and teachers should investigate them to see which ones best fit their needs. This post explains how to use Google Drawings, with directions on how to create graphic organizers using this tool. This is the YouTube generation, and these students need to be creating content, not consuming it. There are too many tools out there to simply fall back on outdated ways of presenting and sharing information. Basic presentation software makes it simply too easy to cut and paste information without actually learning anything. Students need to be creating content that reaches a broader audience than the people sitting in their classroom. Whether it's making videos, podcasts, or infographics, there are plenty of ways to present and share information in new and unique ways that open the doors to the highest levels of Blooms Taxonomy.

Online Python Tutor is a free educational tool that helps students overcome a fundamental barrier to learning programming: understanding what happens as the computer executes each line of a program's source code. Using this tool, a teacher or student can write a Python program directly in the web browser and visualize what the computer is doing step-by-step as it executes the program."

A list of 8 good web tools that help to create instant polls. Useful for use with students as they do not require any registration. They would allow teachers to get some quick feedback about what has been learnt in the classroom and provide information for future lessons. 

Tweet Binder allows you to search for a hashtag and add that collection of tweets to a 'binder'. You can then search for keywords within that list of tweets. This could be a useful tool if you are following a key story via a hashtag. The free tool also offers analytics so you can see contributors (people who tweeted with that hashtag) and the potential reach of the tweets.
