"When you're wanting to use Google Docs/Drive with students, figuring out which workflow works best for you is one of the biggest challenges. How to access something I want students to turn in to me? How do I put a file out there for my students to have access to? I wanted to share a couple ways that teachers in my district have been doing that. I know they aren't the only ways it can be done but teachers have had a lot of success with them."

"Last September, I wrote a post about how scammers had been using my photos to lure women into online, romantic relationships for the purpose of 'borrowing' or extorting money. Since that time, the scams have continued. I get, on average, one new report a day from women (and occasionally men) who have been tricked, or nearly tricked, into sending money. In many cases, individuals have reported forming deep attachments or even falling in love with these scammers. This has been a frustrating predicament that has been going on for many years now. In this post, I thought I would share a few of the things that I've learned about the scams, the scammers, and their potential victims."

At the risk of oversimplifying Kant's ideas, I'm suggesting that his categorical imperatives (unconditional requirements that are always true) be adapted as guiding principles for ethical technology use: 1. Before I do something with this technology, I ask myself, would it be alright if everyone did it? 2. Is this going to harm or dehumanise anyone, even people I don't know and will never meet? 3. Do I have the informed consent of those who will be affected? If the answer to any of these questions is "no", then it is arguably unethical to do it.

"Last week I was in a bit of a bind: My mobile broadband key from 3 wasn't getting reception, while my Optus-powered Samsung Galaxy S had enough reception to get me online, but I needed to use the laptop. Then I remembered that the Galaxy S lets you use the phone's 3G connection as a mobile hotspot and I thought to myself, "All phones should have this feature!"

Consider that many students have phones and that these will soon become mobile hotspots. Only a big deal for schools and depts that spend a fortune to shackle and cripple what students can and probably should be doing.

"When I was 10 years old I was hitting a digital puck across the screen with a digital paddle playing Pong. My son at age 10 was learning metallurgy and materials management in an online multiplayer game called Runescape! I knew nothing of the game at the time, and he soon showed me how he learned to collect items in the world in order to make new things that he needed to complete quests and gain experience. In particular, he showed me how he needed to collect certain metal ores, take them to a smelter to extract metals, and then take those to a forge to create tools or to a craftsman to make other things. This is one of the reasons that I am still excited about Minecraft."

Air Video is great, this is an awesome app. I have used it to share videos off my laptop for students to view on the iPad. Nice summary of cool iPad Apps that are serious game-changers.

This is a Pinterest list of more than 60 infograohics I have reviewed during this year. I have embedded them on my Pinterest Page particularly in the  Infographic Board I have created .

At first I wasn't sure about the poor range of (physics/science) books I found in the subject sections, but when I searched using more specific terms (like energy, electricity etc), there were loads of multi-page docs (PDFs) available to download. Worth exploring a little more deeply.

Two years ago I wrote a column for Inside Higher Ed entitled "The iPad for Academics." Now, two years and two new models of iPad later, it seems time to revisit some of that original column: How well does it stand up, how did my predictions turn out, and what have I learned since then? The answers are, roughly, "good" "O.K." and "a lot." When I wrote my column, no one was sure what the future held for the iPad, and there was serious skepticism about the more apocalyptic predictions. In fact, somewhat boringly, Apple's release of the iPad did what most Apple products do -- change the world, sell millions of units, and alter our information ecosystem irrevocably -- but it didn't end the world.

I have recently published a book in the iTunes store. (Read about it here or here.) Some people have expressed interest in knowing how exactly I was able to do this. Well the good news is that it's not very difficult. The bad news is that you have to get the formatting perfect or it will be rejected.

Mobile learning is in the air, almost everyone realizes the potential, and some companies are now taking tentative first steps. While I haven't blogged in a while, I continue trawling through my RSS feeds, seeing more and more references to mobile learning, mlearning, performance support, 'just-in-time' and so many other terms that make sense in that context. Here are some interesting links I've come across recently, mostly about mobile learning and some about learning in general that I found interesting. Do note some of these link up to dated articles.

The reviews from people testing the Nexus 7 for an extended period have been almost unanimously positive. However, while many have rightly compared the Nexus 7 to the Kindle Fire, and stated that Google's effort blows Amazon's out of the water, few would even mention the Nexus 7 in the same breath as the Apple iPad. I disagree with this inherent refusal to put the two on a par. I believe the Nexus 7 is competition for the iPad and I feel competition to Apple's stranglehold on the tablet market is exactly what's needed at this juncture
