Flipboard has announced a new feature for its popular app for iOS that lets users co-curate magazines.
Starting today, Flipboard curators can invite others to contribute to their magazines. So if there are people who share your passions or have expertise about your topic of interest, invite a bunch of your friends to be co-curators. Once they accept, they'll be able to easily flip content into the magazine via the + button on Flipboard and the "Flip It" Web bookmarklet. The magazine will be added to their dashboard, as well.
I am flipping my staff professional development sessions also. Teachers watch training videos on their own. Then I use screen-o-matic to capture crucial points of a handout I distribute and assign mini homework lessons prior to meeting. Then when we all get together, I use a Google doc form to get quick responses to kick off table talk. Teachers seem to llike that they can go at their own pace of learning prior to meeting.
Listen as this panel of classroom teachers engage in a discussion of the various permutations of the flipped classroom.
This session was recorded in the Cisco Connected Classroom at ISTE 2012.
A great collection of 'not quite flipped' videos. Particularly pertinent from the discussion with Ian Guest about video teachers practise. Eddie Woo has started recording his instruction and posting them on Youtube.

"I confess! I'm a Flipboard flip-a-holic. I wasn't always this way. I originally hated Flipbaord and found the magazine style layout cluttered. Life has changed and Flipboard is now the most used app on my tablet. And since I wrote my post on Google Reader replacements, I've had a lot of people ask me what benefits I gain using Flipboard that they missed! So I've put together this information to help you get started using Flipboard or get more out of using Flipboard."
Professional Development for me used to be about going to sessions on specific days and then trying to 'bring back' what I've learned and incorporate it into my daily practice. Sometimes this was very challenging, I would get inundated with new information and find it very hard to apply what I learned into what I did on a day-to-day basis. Often my notes would be filed away, not to be seen again.
A really interesting look at the Khan Academy, and more, and the bigger "Flipped Classroom" movement. The article contains a potted history of the Khan development as well as some rebuttals from Gary Stager and Sylvia Martinez. An interesting read for all wanting to know more about Khan.
"Over the last few days I've featured a couple of free tools for adding interactive elements to your videos. In the last year I've reviewed a few other services and methods for doing the same thing. This is a round-up of the ways that you can add interactive elements to your videos. The first four tools could be used by students to create a series of choose your own adventure videos. These tools could be used by teachers to enhance the short videos that they create for flipped lessons."
